Chapter 35

Sam

We were walking towards the car with Xander holding the groceries in his arms, Adriana and Liam trailing behind us. Suddenly, I saw Xander freeze mid-step, his eyes glaze over and a blank look masking his face. I glanced behind me and saw Liam looking at Xander with an alert expression.

Xander's blank look broke before he looked back at me with an apologetic expression. He leaned down and gave my forehead a kiss.

"Sam, listen. A guard who was patrolling the perimeter of the land just told me that he caught a scent of a few rogues about five miles away from the pack, and I can't have that so I need to go investigate. I'll mind-link five guards to take you back to the house along with the groceries. I'm really sorry.

Mind-link me if there's any trouble. Please stay here until the guards arrive. They should be here in five minutes." Xander said, throwing a brief glance at Adriana who didn't seem to notice.

I nodded and gave him a hug. Xander smiled down at me before nodding at Liam and heading to the car. The car doors slammed shut before speeding down the road and disappearing out of my sight. A sigh escaped me as a feeling of longing filled my whole being. I shook my head at my ridiculous thought.

'I'm just missing him, that's all.' I thought to myself.

"Hey Sam, do you mind coming with me? I need to go meet my brother, he just contacted me a few minutes ago saying to meet him because he misses "his little sister." Ugh, I can't believe I'm related to that guy." Adriana said, shaking her head in feigned annoyance, but her face saying the complete opposite.

I looked at her skeptically. I don't want to come with her because every time I'm out with her, trouble seems to always find their way to me, and I don't want that. I don't want to worry Xander and the rest of our pack members anymore. I shook my head at her and gave her a small glare.

"Sorry Adriana, but Xander said that the guards will be arriving soon. I wouldn't want them to think that someone kidnapped us and cause a panic in the pack, right?" I asked her raising an eyebrow.

Adriana pouted and looked at me pleadingly.

"Please Sam, I miss my big brother, and plus I really want you to meet him. He's the best, a little annoying, but still a loving brother." Adriana said with a big smile.

I shook my head at her.

"No Adriana, please respect my decision," I told her firmly.

"Oh don't be a party pooper, Sam. You really need to be more independent and stop following your mate like a lost puppy. It gets really annoying sometimes." Adriana said, rolling her eyes and grabbing a hold of my wrist before dragging me into the forest.

I struggled against her hold and tried to remove her fingers that were wrapped tightly around my wrist. Her hold seemed to tighten making me grow frustrated.

"Adriana stop!" I shouted at her.

"You really need to quiet down a little, girl. Otherwise, people will think that I'm kidnapping you or something." Adriana said jokingly, but I could hear the little irritation in her tone.

"Technically, you are kidnapping me because you are dragging me to someplace against my will, but sure go ahead. I mean it's not like I'm stopping you or anything, even though I tried to tell you to stop two minutes ago." I told her sarcastically, frustration visible in my features as I glared at the hand that was holding me.

"Oh shush, you just got to trust me on this okay? It's not like I'm taking you to the enemy or something, I just want you to meet my brother that's all. And then after that, we'll come back right away, I promise." She said, continuing to drag me.
