I walked away from my car, currently situated on the driveway and sheathed in the night, towards my house. I slipped my hand in my pocket, my fingers searching for the cool metal that composed my keys. As I dug them out, I heard a rustle of soft cotton from behind me.
"Wolf," I heard a familiar gruff voice call out from the shadows, causing my head to whip around suddenly.
"Leon?" I asked, incredulity coloring my tone. He stepped out from the dark, the dim glow from the moon illuminating his icy blue eyes and black hair. I gulped slowly, disbelief pounding through my veins.
"Nara," he grinned, the smile stretching across his face. He held his arms out, welcoming me to throw myself in his arms.
But I didn't move.
I couldn't understand why at that moment, but as I drank in his features once again, flashes of pain and betrayal broke through my carefully constructed walls, and I couldn't bring myself to be happy with his return. So instead, I let a frown set on my face, and watched his happy expression fade.
"Come on, Nara, you know I'm sorry," he prompted, sincere regret appearing on his face. His icy blue eyes seemed to warm for a second, almost making me forgive him, but I forcefully steeled myself.
"You're going to have to do a lot more than give me some half-assed apology," I snapped, taking my keys and digging it into the lock. I opened my door swiftly, slamming it behind me loudly. I cringed at the sound it made, so similar to the ones that haunted my dreams, and climbed up the stairs tiredly. Relief coursed through me as I realized my dad was still at work, and I quickly made my way to my bedroom and climbed into my bed.
With my soft leather jacket still enveloping me, I hugged my knees and let out a sob that had been suppressed for a long time, and heard it echo through my room.
Sometimes, the past just was too much for me to handle. Sometimes, it was just too much for me to ignore.
