Every story has got to start somewhere, so I guess I'll start from the beginning; it's as good of a place to start as any I suppose...

I'm Courtney Miller, live with my Mum, Dad and my 13 year old brother Jake. I love skateboarding, ice cream and going out with friends.

I obviously have a few friends, but I've never been popular or really wanted to be to be honest, in fact, popularity doesn't bother me at all. If I'm perfectly honest, I'm quite weird and I don't really care what others think about me most of the time.

Life's never treated me particularly badly, despite the occasional embarrassing moment, but hey, we all have those.

To be honest though, life's pretty good right now; I love my family and friends and my school work is going okay, but everything good always has to come to an end right? Well I guess now it's my turn.

My dad's been offered a job in America, New Jersey, on the other side of the world, far away from my friends, and everything I have known and loved my whole life.

well I guess this is it. A new life. A new beginning. A new everything.

As I pack my suitcases, Lauren, my best friend  is siting on my bed, not helping much, but I don't mind because I'm going to miss her so much.

"I don't know what I'm going to do without you Courts" she sighs, fiddling with a key charm of a fluffy heart I got her like 3 years ago.

"I know Lauren but we have like every social media known to man and it's not like I'm never going to see you again - you're coming to visit in the summer and we can spend the whole six weeks together, just like it's always been!"
"Of course you're right" she says embracing me in the biggest hug, which, to be perfectly honest, is a frequent occurrence between us.

The drive to the airport is long and I plug my earphones into my phone and Shawn Mendes fills my ears. I don't listen much though because I'm too busy thinking about what New Jersey will be like - Will I make new friends? What will the house be like? What will school be like? Will I get an accent?

These thoughts fill my mind as I drift off to sleep and what feels like seconds later, my brother Jake is waking me up.
"Come on Courtney, we're at the airport"

The plane journey is long and tiring, and I am perfectly aware that I look like I have been scraped off the bottom of someone's shoe but quite frankly, I'm too tired and lazy to care.

Hours later we land in an airport, not that dissimilar to London Gatwick but different enough to know that I'm not home anymore... well I suppose I am now... that will take some getting used to.

I put on a smile, remembering to stay positive and we go to a place to pick up our cars and drive to the new house, which wasn't that far away; it was only about an hour and a half's drive.

As we drive into the neighbourhood, I notice the area we live in is really nice and the houses are bigger than our one back in England. I smile, trying to keep myself positive despite the fact that I know, I really am going to be fine here.
