Song: Merry Little Christmas by Jewel (I think?)

___

It was one of the coldest winters I could remember. The windows frosted over and the halls were the shrieking from the unwanted cold winds that blew through the large castle.

It was Christmas at Hogwarts again. I couldn't go home during the holidays, because my folks were off visiting my brother. So I was stuck in the Hufflepuff common room on Christmas eve by myself. It wasn't all bad I suppose. The fire burned hot and I had my creatures to keep me company. There were a few other students that stayed over the holidays, but it was a rare few. I didn't know them very well, so we didn't talk much.

Even now as the Great Hall was filled with the remaining students, I stayed to myself. I suppose I had always been that way.

Getting up I began my usual treck to the library, before it was curfew. The librarian didn't mind me being there after hours, but she worried that I would get in trouble with the other staff.

The library was lit by floating candles adorned with small red festive bows. The entirety of the school was decorated for the celebration.

Tucked under my jumper clad arm, was a crudely wrapped brown box. I was going to give it to her. I was not going to back out this time.

Sitting in her usual seat in corner of the large room was the very girl, I so wished I could talk to. She was so much like me, and yet so different. Her eyes reflected the candle light as she read a thick hardbound book. She was most likely studying. She was almost always studying.

"U-um hi?" I stuttered out.

Looking up she smiled slightly.

"Hey. Merry Christmas." She said to me.

My heart just exploded. There was no way. She just smiled at me. I was shaking and my palms began to sweat.

"Um here." I said, as I shoved the box towards her.

"You... got me something? I'm sorry. I would've if I'd known." She replied.

"No! No at all! You don't even know me! I just thought you didn't seem to have many friends so..." I said, but immediately hit myself in the face with my palm. I'm so dumb! How could I have said that?

"Thank you..." she said as she unwrapped the box.

"Christmas isn't until tomorrow morning." I said before I could stop myself.

"I know but this deserves to be opened now." She said, as she ripped off the ends of paper.

"Wow, that's so nice." She whispered in awe.

"Really? You think so?" I asked impatiently.

"It's really nice. Thank you. I just don't have anything to give to you in return..." she said, as she took the stunning and expensive quill from the box.

"You don't need to give me anything in return. I'm just glad you like it." I said, as I looked at my shoes.

"What's your name? I know you're a Hufflepuff, and an amazing care of magical creatures student but, I don't know your name." She said.

"O-oh. I'm Newt." I said.

"Well have a great Christmas, Newt." She said as she stood.

"Would you... I don't know... want to spend breakfast together tomorrow or something like that?" I asked as I looked up.

"I would love to." She said with a smile.

"Is that mistletoe?" I said, as I pointed to plant that hung just above us.

"I believe so. Mistletoe is full of Nargles did you know?" She said.

"Nargles?" I asked.

"Oh never mind." She said, as she leaned forward and gave me a peck on the cheek.

"I'll see you tomorrow at breakfast, Newt." She said as she walked off with her books, and her gift in hand.

My face was burning. There was no way that had just happened. I could never talk to her before then. Did she know I always watched her as she read? Did she know I liked her? Well I would have to get to know her better to find out...

The following day and went like most Christmases did. Filled with joy, presents and friends. Your sister was one of the few I had during my time at Hogwarts. She was always busy with something but she found the time to talk with me. I remember so vividly how much she loved to travel. Her family did it often and after that Christmas she would always come back with a small gift for me. Things were always a bit awkward and forced so we just remained friends for a long time. Only thing was that didn't change how we felt about each other. We were just young and in love, and didn't really know what to do about it.

I

actually haven't celebrated Christmas in a couple of years so don't worry if you don't celebrate it too. I don't mean to push it on anyone.

Since this is the Christmas special, I'm going to be extra annoying. What are you all asking for, for Christmas? All I want is 100k views(😋), and Eddie Redmayne (or Chandler Riggs).

Drop a vote on this chapter if you liked it (or a follow if you love me). I hope you liked it!

Happy holidays everyone! Or whatever you celebrate!
