1 New Text Message: Violet McGuire

I read the words from the illuminated screen of my phone. It seemed that the days were already getting shorter, because at only 4:30 in the afternoon the sun was close to setting. I opened the text to see the words "Come straight to our room after class!"

Violet was my randomly picked roommate, and the closest friend I had made in my first two weeks at Uni. Violet was sweet, happy, and funny, yet she was very demanding and usually got her way. She chose Hallows University in London because that was the University that her boyfriend started attending the year before. She was studying to become an educator of some sorts, and when she was done, her plan was to return to Ireland and get a teaching job. Violet had strawberry blonde hair, and bright green eyes. The only distasteful thing I'd ever seen her in would be her pajamas, otherwise, she always looked flawless, right to the last detail of her outfits, which is probably why she ragged on mine all the time. She was the type of person who planned everything out, especially her future. She knew exactly what she wanted.

I think that's a main reason I'd taken such a liking to Violet. She was the exact opposite as me when it came to those things. She knew what she would be doing in five years, while I would probably be retreating back to my parents home on the North Yorkshire coast. Not that I was disappointed in that, because whether I was going to become successful in art or writing, at least I'd be doing something I love. Maybe I'd even travel a bit and find inspiration in the world I have yet to discover.

When I reached our dorm, I pulled out my student ID and swiped it so that the doors would open. I climbed the four stories of stairs instead of taking the elevator because as much as I appreciated the concept of young love and passion, I did not want to ride in the elevator with the couple who was currently making out waiting to catch it.

When I reached dorm 406, I inserted my student ID into the lock and waited for the beep to confirm it was my key and the door unlocked. I pulled open the door to find Violet running around, her wedges clonking on the floor and probably irritating the people below us. She was on the phone.

"Yes, I do realize this-"

"Oh, shut up. Just be there, you twat."

I grabbed an apple off of our bar and plopped down on my bed, watching as she searched for something and talked to who ever it was on the phone in an annoyed manner. Then, she stopped. She stood up straight and focused on the problem with the person on the other side of her phone.

"Listen to me. It is Niall's birthday and so help me God, if you are not there, I will hunt you down. Nothing is more important than your best friend, so stop being an ass, take the girl you're with home and show up, sober. Do you understand me?" She threw her arms down in exasperation.

There was a long pause in our room while I munched on my apple and watched as a smug smile form on her face as she listened to whoever it was on the phone comply with her wishes. That was another thing about Violet, she was very persuasive.

"Good. I'll see you there, bye." she said before hanging up her phone and putting it in her purse.

She then turned to me. "Hey Jenson. So, you had your first class today! God, I'm sorry I didn't ask you about it as soon as you walked through the door." she said, sitting down next to me.

"That's fine, seems like you had your hands full." I chuckle.

"Yeah, Niall's best friend is quite the handful." she shook her head. "But forget that, how was your first class? I have mine tomorrow and I am so nervous."
