Chapter 6
The next night Chloe and Kevin were escorted out of the building and to a black car with tinted windows. Kevin got in to drive while Chloe sat in the passenger seat. They were heading to Dr. Kumar’s house hoping that his papers would be in his personal office.
His house was on the other end of town an took them about 20 minutes to get there. Pulling up outside they looked up at the old brick two story house. All the windows were dark not giving them a hint if there were people inside or not.
“Can you see if anyone’s in his place?” Kevin asked looking over at Chloe.
Chloe closed her eyes and tried to focus on the doctors apartment. Shaking her head she opened her eyes again. “There’s to many rooms to check individually.”
Kevin nodded. “OK, I can hear two heart beats but I can’t tell if their animal or human. Just be careful ok? Use your ear piece if you need me. I’ll stay out here for now and make sure no one enters the building.”
Chloe nodded before getting out of the car. Looking around to make sure no one was watching she slowly made her way up to the door. Focusing she tried to see if it was unlock, discovering it wasn’t she then closed her eyes again and focused ok the locking system. The doctor had to be paranoid, he had three different types of locks on his door.
Slowly Chloe worked at opening each of them. When she had opened the last one she proceeded to open the door and walk inside, being sure she didn’t touch anything. Once inside she tried to picture the house inside her head. It was just too large to do a full picture. She was find if it was one room but she couldn’t picture the whole house.
Taking a deep breath she started going through each room, again very careful not to touch anything. She’d finished the main floor and the second floor when she heard a noise from the basement. Taking a breath and hoping it was just a pet she slowly made her way to the basement door.
Checking she found that this door was locked as well. This time it was mixture of slide bolts and chains. It took her even longer to unlock this door. Trying to unhook the chains was like untying a knot in the mirror.
As soon as she had the door unlocked and stepped in she closed her eyes and looked for the light switch in the plan. Now that she had just one room to focus on it was easy to get the plan of it inside her head. Locating it she flicked it on and closed her eyes again to see the full layout again. It wasn’t until she did that she noticed two people cowarding in the corner of what looked like the main office.
Chloe froze, she had hoped no one would be home, she didn’t want to have to kill anybody but she also didn’t want to let Mr. Jamieson down. Taking a deep breath she walked up to the door and mentally opened it and turned on the lights.
Once the lights were on she looked in the corner and felt her heart stop. There cuddled up was a mother and daughter, looking at Chloe with fear in their eyes. Chloe couldn’t swallow, she couldn’t breathe, she couldn’t move an inch. As soon as she set eyes on the two of she knew she wasn’t going to be able to kill them.
Forcing herself to swallow she slowly made her way over to them. “I’m really sorry about this. I don’t want to hurt you so please just tell me where Dr. Kumar keeps his papers?”
The mother looked at Chloe before slowly standing and making her way over to a filing cabinet and opening it up. Taking out a large file folder she walked back over to Chloe and handed it over.
