The ride to their camp was quiet but comfortable, and honestly, I was just happy that I was still alive and off of that car. I never thought someone in this world would ever help me and offer a place to stay-- I didn't think there were any good people left.

We soon reached a large gate that quickly opened before Rick spoke up again, "You're going to need to talk to Deanna; she runs this place and has final say."

My heart dropped a little, afraid that the spot I once thought I had in this place might not be a sure thing, but I nodded in reply.

Once the gate closed, Rosita grabbed my arm, dragging me out of the back of the van as our arrival caught the attention of curious onlookers.

I stood in shock as I tried to take in everything around me; this place making me feel like the world was normal again.
I began feeling uneasy as the strangers from this group started approaching the van, glancing over at me as they began unloading supplies.

"Who she?" One guy asked lowly at Rick, flicking his head in my direction.

"Liz; her people got attacked by walkers and she was left alone." Rick said, handing a box to the man who continued to stare me down, obviously wary of my presence.

"Rick," a woman's voice said, not sounding too pleased, "I see you brought a stranger back with you."

"I'm sorry, Deanna," Rick began, "She was alone; she had nowhere to go.

She nodded her head before looking in my direction, placing a hand out for me to shake, "I'm Deanna, welcome to Alexandria."

"I'm Elizabeth, but I go by Liz." I said shaking her hand, hoping to make a good impression.

"Well Liz, if you're going to be staying here I'd like to get to know you more, if you'd follow me to my house." She smiled, beginning to walk in the direction of the beautiful, large houses before turning back around to speak, "Rosita, would you please accompany us?"

Rosita glanced over at me before nodding and following Deanna.

I sat in a semi-comfortable chair as I watched Deanna walk over holding a camcorder, "I hope you don't mind, I like recording these sessions for reference if needed later."

I nodded my head, "It's fine."

She pressed the record button before she started speaking, "So, can you please say your name and age?"

"Liz and 22." I said, still a bit confused about what this was all about.

"What did you do before all of this, Liz?"

"Um, I finished with school not too long before and then I was just traveling around a bit."

"Any jobs?" She smiled.

"I worked as a bagger at a grocery story for a little." I shrugged.

"Well that's something," she chuckled, "We've all gotta start somewhere."

I nodded, getting more comfortable, even with Rosita staring me down.

"Now, Rick said you were alone? What happened to the people you were with?"

I let out a deep breath, "In the beginning, I was with a lot of people who didn't really know what they were doing, and even though we all tried, a lot of them didn't make it." I explained, beginning to fiddle with my hands, "Then, as time went on, we just slowly started, um- we started losing more people." I said, getting choked up at the memories of the people I once knew.

"It's okay, just take a second to recollect yourself." Deanna said softly.

I nodded before beginning again, "It just never really stopped, you know?"

She nodded in response, "I understand, I really do."

"Just a few hours ago, there was 3 of us left, but we didn't expect a herd and we weren't prepared at all." I continued as I recalled the memory, "One of our people, Cole, he had checked like 15 minutes or something before we went out there and he said it was clear.. and it was for maybe 3 minutes.. and then they were just everywhere."

"So Cole and-"

"Meredith." I cut in.

"Yes, Cole and Meredith; they didn't make it?" She asked.

I shook my head, "No, I watched them die."

"I'm sorry you had to go through that, Liz-"

"Why didn't you help them?" Rosita cut in, causing my head to shoot up in confusion and disbelief.

"I did, I- I tried but we weren't prepared!" I defended myself, "All I had left was a few bullets in my gun; we didn't even think to bring knives because we thought it was clear and-"

"It's okay- hey, it's okay." Deanna said, placing a hand on my knee, trying to calm me down as tears brimmed my lash line.

"I can still hear their screams." My shaky voice barely let out.

_____
We got to see a very little bit of Liz's backstory in this chapter along with some beginning character relationships, but don't worry, there's a whole lot more to come.

I will continue to do the daily/every other day uploading schedule, if you guys were curious at all about that.

Let me know your thoughts so far.
