Reader's P.O.V

A sigh escaped my lips as I glared down at the dirty dishes piled into the sink before me. It was my own fault really. I had decided to go on a giant cooking spree, cooking everything from simple starters to extravagant desserts. Another sigh left my lips as I filled the sink with hot water and soap and started to wash up each dish until it was sparkling.

Lifting up the last dish to the window, I inspected it for dirt when a bright flash of light momentarily blinded me. There was a loud shattering of glass and a sharp pain in my foot and lower leg. My eyes shot open with the pain, immediately noticing the (f/c) and (s/f/c) swirling pool that had appeared in the garden.

I'm not quite sure what happened in the next few minutes but I do know that I ended up stood in front of the portal, an aluminium baseball bat in my hands and a small switchblade tucked into the back pocket of my jeans, trying my hardest to resist the pull. Suddenly, I felt my feet get yanked out from under my body and with a shout of desperation, I tried to save myself from getting pulled into the swirling portal only for all my efforts to go to waste.

~*~

The trip was over soon than I had anticipated and ended with my body being thrown violently against the hard ground, left to stare up at what would have been the sky, if you could see past the mass of tree branches and leaves. Slowly I tried to push my body up into a sitting position only to collapse again, pain rippling through my left shoulder. Risking a glance at it, my eyes widened at the twisted position it was at.

"Damn!"

Taking a deep breath, I tried to move it, only to let another cry of pain. It was dislocated. A tear slipped out of my eye as I used my other arm to push myself into the sitting position that I failed to do first time and took the opportunity to survey my new surroundings. My bat was laying only a few feet away from my body and there were trees covering every other bit of available space around me.

Letting out a grunt of effort, I pushed myself to my feet and grabbed the bat, sending another glance around the parts of the wood I could see.

"Damn it. Where on Earth am I?"

With a sigh, I let my feet take me into the forest, holding my damaged arm against my chest and hoping from the deepest part my heart that I wouldn't be trapped in it forever.

~*~

I'd been walking for a solid 30 minutes when I noticed the trees had begun to thin and that it was getting lighter. A grin appeared on my lips as I realised that this gave me the possibility of finding civilisation. I began to speed up my pace until I was actually running full pelt, ignoring the pain in my shoulder that was slowly growing.

Finally I reached the edge of the forest only to see a large lake. I had no means to cross it and I was already exhausted. Sighing again, it seems to be all I am doing, I sat down on a nearby rock and let my body relax, finally being able to feel the pain in my arm again and pain in my leg. My leg? Reaching down with my good arm I pulled up the bottom of my jeans to see what was causing me the pain. Cuts covered the bottom of my leg and disappeared under my socks. It must have been from the glass dish I dropped.

Pulling the bottom of my jeans back down, I looked over to where I had placed my bat and decided to empty all my pockets to see what I had grabbed in my daze. Sifting through my pockets I pulled out my switchblade, my phone and a pack of painkillers. I immediately thanked myself for bringing the painkillers and took one out of the packet and went over to the water's edge, taking a sip of water before swallowing the pill.
