So I've been watching Suits the past week, and it ripped me apart. And I thought about it, and you could actually turn Suits into a RA fanfiction. Some things would be entirely different, but let me tell you what I came up with.

In Araluen, it's illegal for orphans to become a Ranger. That is, because Rangers need to know certain things before they start their apprenticeship, and orphans won't know those things because they don't have parents who told them.

This means that Will is not allowed to become a Ranger. He grows up at a farm, where he helps with everything. He becomes good friends with someone [Horace], and that friend later needs a favor. Will steels something for him. He is seen, but is able to avoid the guards (he can move silently and unseen). He thinks he's fine, but then he runs into Halt.

Long story short, Halt decides to take him on as his apprentice.

The years pass, his 'family' dies and no one finds out the famous Will Treaty is an orphan. Although...

Of course Pauline finds out, because she knows everything. Crowley and Duncan find out, too. But none of them does anything about it, because Will is too damn good at his job.

Will tells Alyss when they get into a relationship, because he wants her to know the truth.

So the years pass again, with only a select group of people knowing the truth behind Araluen's finest Ranger. Everything happens just like in the books.

Until just before The Lost Stories, a diplomat from another country visits Araluen and finds out the truth (I don't know how, still gotta think about that). Anyway, she confronts Duncan and Crowley, but whatever Will says, they're not backing down from a fight.

So that diplomat tells all other countries.

This results in war.

With countries close and near attacking Araluen both at the battlefields and via paperwork, the country slowly loses everything. There is only one solution:

Will turns on Halt and tells everyone the truth: that it was Halt who convinced him to become a Ranger even though he's an orphan. That way the countries can turn on Halt.
Halt wants him to take that deal, but Will doesn't, because he doesn't want to betray the man who owes him his life.

So he turns himself in.

Now Araluen's left with only a small part of what they had, Alyss has lost her fiancee and Halt lives with the guilt that Will's whole life his ruined because of him, and there's nothing he can do about it.

And Will? He's gone forever.
