Nine Inch Nails - Closer
Adrianne
He was so close to me.
I knew it was him, even though I couldn't see his face.
I could see everything but his face.
I reached out to touch him, but he was a foot away from me now.
Why couldn't I touch him? He wouldn't let me.
"Dad.." I whispered. He shook his head.
No.
I went towards him again, but I walked in slow motion.
He kept getting farther away with each step I took.
"No!" He screamed at me. I didn't listen.
I ran towards him, but I was on the moon now, my steps huge and taking forever.
Why can't I touch him?
Because he's not here, that's why.
I screamed.
I shot up, sweating and panting in my bed.
One year had passed.
I had graduated from high school, gotten my diploma, and now went to the closest college to my home.
My life had went on without him.
I lived in a small town in the center of Florida, and stayed with my mother, unfortunately. My brother had moved to go to a much farther college, but me and him still constantly spoke.
I looked over to see his contact picture pop up on my phone. I grabbed it and answered.
"Hey," I said, yanking my covers off of me.
"Hey," he said, "what's up?"
"Not much, just about to head to one of my classes. What about you?" I looked at my clock. I could make it on time.
"I'm just chillin' at home. Gonna go to work soon."
"Oh, sounds like fun." I smiled. I sat on the toilet and went pee.
"I know right," he muttered. I flushed. "How's she doing?" He cleared his throat.
I paused. "Perfect. Same old, same old." I wrinkled my nose.
He sighed over the phone. "Not surprised. I don't even know why you're still there. You should come move in with me."
I was quiet for a second. "Yeah, I know. I'm trying to figure that out, too." I snatched my keys off my nightstand.
He laughed a little. "Yeah... I miss you. You should at least come visit me for a day or something. You know, get away from there for a little."
"Yeah, I'll take you out to dinner." I chuckled. I could feel him smile through the phone.
"Hey, I gotta go get ready for work. I'll call you tomorrow, okay?"
"Okay." I headed downstairs.
"Love ya."
"Love you too, bye."
"Bye."
I hung up as I got in my car and I headed to school.
