When Delphine Glitz was born she seemed pretty normal. She had fair skin, bright blue eyes, and small head of hair but nothing out of the ordinary. You see she was like any other baby, she laughed at funny faces her mother made, she cried when she was hungry or needed a diaper change, and she only slept when she was being held. She had a loving family, a mother and a grandmother- the only thing missing was her father who had died a month before she was born.
Everyday Delphine grew a little more, laughed a little more, and her mother fell in love with her a lot more. Delphine loved the water, and her mother began to find her child odd when all she would drink was water unlike other children who usually drank more milk. By the time Delphine turned three her mother began to notice little marks on her skin which she believed to be rash's
Growing worried for the child Delphine's mother took her to doctors who also believed the marks to be a rash. Delphine was prescribed ointments and medications that never worked and by the time Delphine was four the odd marks on her skin had darkened to colors of blue and green. Bumps on her skin that Delphine's mother had recognized as scaled of a fish. It was the strangest thing this mother had ever seen on a child and it had been even more strange when puddles of water would surround Delphine even when she wasn't anywhere near water.
Delphine's mother was afraid, she knew her child was strange and she had stopped taking her to the doctors embarrassed and afraid of what they would think upon seeing the scales scattered and patched along the child's body. She didn't want the child, she wanted nothing to do with it so one night she did something that would change her life for the worst.
Tip toeing to her daughters bed room the mother looked at her daughter who was fast asleep in her small bed. She held on tight to a dolphin stuffed animal her grandmother had made her. Her chest heaved up and down as she breathed, her lips slightly open letting out little whistles. Any other day the mother would have found this beautiful, but that was before she believed her daughter to be evil. Looking around to make sure she wouldn't wake her mother the mom slowly bent down and lifted her daughter out of the bed.
"Mama." The child said in a sleep voice causing the mothers heart to raise, slowly she cradled the four year old shushing her and telling her that everything would be alright. The mother slowly walked to the bathroom where she had a tub filled with water, she was nervous. She could get caught or everything could turn out the way she wanted. Looking over her shoulder the mother kneeled down and began to gently lower Delphine into the tub shushing her and telling her everything would be alright.
Once Delphine was fully in the tub of water her bright blue eyes opened, the color contrasting against the clear water. The child gasped for air causing the water to enter her lungs as she struggled against her mother who held on tightly to her pushing her under the water. The water around her splashed and Delphine kicked and screamed causing bubbles to rise. The candle sitting on the toilet extinguished as water fell on it and they were engulfed in darkness.
Christina was starting to get nervous, she wondered when this would all stop when boiling hot water splashed her in the face causing her to scream out in pain. Behind the mother was the child's grandmother, Gretchen who turned on the bathroom light, a look of disgust on her face as she took in what her daughter was doing to her granddaughter.
"Get out! Out!" Gretchen yelled out pulling her daughter up by the arm not caring that her daughter was crying out in pain from the burning water that would surely leave a scar. "Get out of my house you awful, awful girl!"
Once Christina was out of the house Gretchen walked back to the bathroom where she found her granddaughter splashing around in the water as if nothing had happened. She was perfectly fine and this was something that Gretchen found very peculiar.
Authors Note
Hi guys, finally I have the first chapter out. This still follows a lot of the original prologue but I have shortened it and edited some stuff out. Sorry it took me such a long time to get this chapter out. I think a lot of stuff will start to change starting the next chapter and hopefully it will be so much better than the story was before.
Also if you're a new reader welcome and I hope you enjoy the story!
Lastly, if I were to write an AU of this story kind of based on The Little Mermaid but not to much would you guys be willing to read it? Because I have this idea but I didn't want to change this book too much from its original plot so I thought of maybe making an AU. The AU would follow The Little Mermaid a little bit but it will mostly be stuff made up by me and it'll probably be a little darker? I'm not sure yet but I am working it out with my sisters who I always ask their opinions when I'm working on something new.
Oh yes, and before I forget don't forget to check out my book Character Profile if you would like to know more about Delphine (be warned there are book spoilers) and if you would like to know my update schedule or just more about me check out my book Becca which is basically a book of a lot of random things that have to do with me and my books.
Thank you everybody and don't forget to vote and comment! <3
