Just reminding you that in this fanfiction, Killian's mom died giving birth to his (also dead) sister named Joanna; Liam died of cancer (you know - what made him have to leave Emma) and his father is still back in Ireland living his messy screwed-up life after abandoning his sons (because he couldn't handle his wife's death anymore).

So see the struggle and his fear of losing her, now?

"Once Upon A Time, there was a little baby duckling named Fonzie, who got lost in New York City and can't find his mommy." He gave her a teasing look at his last word.
"While Fonzie was walking, he found a little blue mouse and said 'Hey little blue mouse! Can you help me find my mommy?' and the little blue mice said 'Sure!'"

Killian lifted his head to look at Henry who was laying in Emma's arms. Instead of approaching sleep, he looked quite attentive at the words Killian had been saying.

"So while baby duckling and little blue mouse were talking, they saw a green frog and said 'Hey, green frog! Can you help us find duckling's mommy?' and green fog said 'Okay!'"

Emma was about to fall asleep herself, but the sight of him reading to her little boy on their bed, just all together - even Buckley was sleeping at the end of the bed - and that cozy feeling of being home enjoying the quiet moment kept her awake. This was one of those moments that Emma wanted to cherish forever. This was one of those moments that Emma thought she'd never experience again when she was about to die that day at the dock's fire.

And here she was now.

"Night had falled and duckling's mom was not found and baby duckling, little blue mice, green frog, fluffy doggy and spiky lizard had to go home.
All hope was gone for baby duckling and he began to cry thinking he will never see his mommy again until he heard a voice that sounded just like his mommy. The end?"
Killian turned the page to see the last picture of them, baby duckling and his mommy reunited. "Well that was a solid ending."

"That's the most enthusiastic story ever, Killian. I mean, he basically called out the whole zoo to help him and then his mommy simply falls out of the sky the day after. Just great." Emma says, laying Henry down in his crib, next to their bed - she wanted her baby close to her tonight.

Killian lets out an accidental giggle and Emma quickly teases him about it. "Bloody hell, woman."

"You laugh like a girl, Jones."

"I only laugh like a girl for you, Swan."

"Oh, no, no. Not cheesy Killian again."

"You loooooove it when I'm cheesy. Admit it."

"Don't boast." she mumbles before getting back inside their blankets, a desire to just squeal of excitement hitting her because it's just so cold outside and he's so so warm. A desire to hold him and squeeze him, because damn he's all hers. Still, she only hugs his arm for dear life, her hair falling down next to his head as her cheek is squashed against his shoulder.

"Has Mary Margaret said anything?" he asks. They had left the hospital but David had to stay there overnight. Only for precaution.

"Yeah, she did. Everything is okay. My dad has even walked his way to the canteen by himself. Stubborn ass-"

"I'd say it runs in the family, love."

That made her smile because it wasn't usual to hear people, who knew that they weren't the same blood, compare her with her father. Much less with Mary Margaret.

"Elsa and Jefferson also called when they learnt about what happened. You were in the hospital room so they called me. I told them everything was fine, now."

"I'll make sure to call them, tomorrow."

She loved his voice when he was laying down on his back.

"Everyone was really worried, it was crazy. The waiting room was filled with people from around town to see you."

That doesn't take Emma by surprise since the first thing she saw when she, a firewoman and her dad came out of the building was people. Loads of people.

"Everyone in town loves David." she closed her eyes, sleep taking over her.

"And you." he added.

She chuckled, not even moving her head, not even opening her eyes. But she did love cheesy Killian, she had to admit it.

"You were quite the hero, Swan. You saved your father. The town sheriff."

"No. A firefighter saved us. I didn't save anyone."

And yet, she knows that she did save her father. She remembers her fight with her lungs for oxygen, considering giving up... It's just hard to take pride on the good action she's done. She doesn't want pride, no. She just wants to be the savior she's always wanted to be... fighting the bad guys, in her badass leather jacket...

This is what she fantasied about her future ever since she was only 14.

That... and coming home to a loving husband and a child that missed her.

Having dinner ready for her once she came home from a hard day at work, the smell of the food through the door as she searched for the keys and having her little family waiting for her to come home.

"You saved me in many ways, Emma."

She then looks up, her eyes sparkling in the dark with the small light coming from outside their window trying to meet his.

"I do love cheesy Killian."

"Cheesy Killian only tells the truth."

"I know that." she says and they share a knowing smile, because they know about her lying detector and his Emma-Nolan-mind-reader.

"I take it this is the part when you hug me and squeeze me?" he whispers after they spend a long time just staring at each other.

"I was thinking about more enjoyable activities."

"Henry's right here, love."

Her heart literally skipped a beat at his preoccupation with her son. It shouldn't still take her by surprise but it always does.

"It's okay as long as he's asleep." she whispers. "And he only gets to be present in the same room while he's under one year old." she stated her just-recently-made-up rules with a smirk as she climbs on top of him.

"He turns one next week."

Another beat skipped.

This man will kill her if he keeps being this wonderful to her or her son. He's just too much.

"I know. We better enjoy it, then." a grin forms in her face. Proud mommy she is. Her baby accomplished every milestone there was to accomplish in his first year of life and that means she did not fail him like she so feared. Mainly, thanks to Killian.

It's just that... Emma has been through a lot of pain in her life - ever since she was born - and still life keeps throwing problems at her.

But Killian is just worth living.
He was the missing peace before she met him and in those 5 years that he was away...
She only realizes this now because she'd go through anything and she'd have suffered everything all over again just to have him in her life with her.

She'll fight for this happy ending.

Just letting you know that the fire situation was not forgotten. Once David gets back to his good form we'll see what really happened in this day.
