Fanfiction tips

As some of you might know, I'm starting to publish my RA fanfic, called Forgotten Foes. I have been working on it for months and it's still not finished, but I thought it'd be a good idea to share the things I always use. I wrote them down for myself, and I gotta admit that they all help me out every now and then. So here they are, and I hope they'll help you out!

First of all, it's important to know what (not) to do when you start writing fanfiction. Here are the regular tips:

#1 Write about celebrities, movies, or characters you love — but make sure your subject has a mass appeal.

#2 Don't spend too much time coming up with Most Original Story Ever. Just start writing.

#3 Prove you're a true fan by incorporating references, and keeping up with the news surrounding your universe.

#4 Write an universal story.

#5 Try to figure out a updating schedule and stick to it.

#6 Start with writing a story line. Make up something for every chapter, then start with chapter one, onto chapter two, etcetera.

#7 Write down all of your ideas. At any time. You might think you will remember them later, but you probably won't.

#8 And, obviously, try to stick to your original characters as much as possible. Nothing is as annoying as reading a fanfic with peeps out of character.

#9 Write thoroughly. People will have comments, questions, whatever, and you should be able to explain why you did something (or did not).

Those are the main do's and don't's. There are, of course, many, many more, but these should get you started. I'd be happy to help you out, but Google can be a wise source too ;)

About everyone reading this story, however, is a fan of Ranger's Apprentice. Now you're lying if you tell me you have never had an idea you wished you could've written down. So, for all of you out there wanting to write RA fanfiction, here are some tips that have helped me out:

#1 When having an awkward silence, write about coffee.

#2 When in doubt about the tone, use sarcasm.

#3 When you don't know someone's reaction, let them raise an eyebrow.

#4 When you need a part in which nothing happens, write fluff. Will//Alyss, Gilan//Jenny, Horace//Cassandra, Halt//Pauline. Any fluff. We don't have enough of that. (And we never will)

#5 Need a calm chapter without specialties? One word: G A T H E R I N G.

#6 Want something original? Write a happy story. One in which Will doesn't almost die. Because let's be real here, we barely have those.

#7 Writing just another adventure but want an original plottwist? Have someone die. Will, for example. People will say they hate you but they'll probably love the story too. Ignore the death threats tho (speaking from experience here).

#8 Modern Day AU's are always fun to read.

#9 Trust the cloak.

Again, there are many, many more, but I hope these will be able to help you out. In case you're still feeling insecure about writing your own (RA) fanfiction, please DM me. I know you can do it. Everyone can write, and everyone can write fanfiction. Just go for it.

Anyways, this will be the only update for a SHORT while. Writing is going well so I'ma continue with that. I've got some things ready, including the answers to your questions, so every now and then you'll get an update :) In the meantime, I'd love it if you could take the time to check out Forgotten Foes on my profile. I'll have the summary down here:

Revenge is by some considered to be a belied concept. Knowing that one always served people what they truly earned can keep a person happy and serene.

Not that Will Treaty thinks about revenge. Especially not since life is finally getting on well; in possession of his own loving family and caring friends, he lives peacefully in the cabin in the woods.

Until a series of escalating coincidences catches the attention of the Ranger Corps. Not everything may be what it looks like, but if you don't see anything, even Rangers cannot tell what is going on.

When it appears that forgotten foes have returned from the past, Will learns what revenge means to some people and he is forced to make a fatal decision.

I'd really appreciate it if you could check it out; prologue will be posted this Sunday! So, hopefully until then and otherwise, talk to you later!!!
