So here is Chapter Four, in Maxon's POV for a little variety. Anyway, it picks up after the caning, and includes some Maxerica and a bit of gore at the start. Thanks for reading!

I left my seat by the platform as quickly as possible while controlled to please Father. I just needed to get out of that place. The bodies of Officer Leger and Kriss had been removed the bloody wood, and a puddle of sick lay where America's feet had been.

The screams still echoed in my ears as I hurried down the corridor. I knew where Kriss and Officer Leger had been taken. I probably shouldn't keep calling him that. He was an Eight now, and no longer an Officer. His name was Aspen.

Servants scuttled around me as I walked down to their quarters. One door was slightly ajar, and I pushed it open all the way. Kriss was pacing up and down, her hands wrapped in bandages. Aspen lay face-down on the thin bed in the corner, the blanket draped from his waist downwards.

"Maxon!" Kriss ran up to me, tears streaming down her pale face. I rubbed her back comfortingly, and then stepped around her.

"Can I talk to Aspen alone, please?" I asked, and she nodded, going through the door and shutting it.

I went up to Aspen, and tapped his shoulder gently.

"Mer?" he murmured.

Mer? Like America? I gasped as something hit me. When Aspen was caned, he kept calling out 'I love you' and 'it'll be okay'. But he didn't say them to Kriss. He was looking right at America each time.

I gagged, and ran out of the room, Kriss staring at me oddly.

America's door was open, and I walked in. She was on her bed, tears running down her face. My heart broke, and I nearly forgot why I'd come here in the first place. Almost.

"Why didn't you tell me?" My voice cracked in weird places.

She turned towards me, wiping her eyes. "What do you mean?"

"Aspen Leger."

Her eyes widened and flickered to the jar with a lone penny inside.

"What about him? He had just been caned for being with Kriss."

"He loves you." The words tasted sour in my mouth. How could America do this to me?"

"But I don't love him." There it was, pushing against everything: hope.

"Maybe you don't, but you did once," I argue.

"Let me explain. It could take some time."

Cliffhanger ending! Don't kill me for making Maxerica fight! I don't know if I got Maxon right though. Next chapter will probably be sane scene but longed in America's POV
