Daryl and I soon reached the porch of my house after he offered to walk me back; the comforting gesture easing my nerves but not my racing mind.

"Ya gon' be good for t'night?" He asked, peering through the hair that hung down over his face.

I swallowed harshly, asking myself the same question before taking another chance, "Stay with me.." I breathed, "Just for tonight."

He studied my face before looking away, biting at his bottom lip and finally giving a small nod, "Yeah, ok." He mumbled.

I nodded back, a small smile of relief appearing on my face.

He silently followed behind me, through the door and up the stairs until we reached my room.

"Thank you for this." I said, pulling down the blanket on the bed before sliding in, immediately stopping when I noticed Daryl take a seat on a small reclining sofa that sat in the corner of the room.
I furrowed my eyebrows at him, "I'm not gonna make you sleep on a chair, Daryl."

He shook his head, leaning back and getting comfortable, "Nah, its fine."

"It's a queen," I laughed, gesturing at the large bed, "I'm not gonna stop until you're over here."

He hesitantly got up, coming over to the bed and laying down on top of all of the sheets.

I sighed, understanding how emotionally reserved he was, but just wanting him to be comfortable.
I reached over, turning off the light on the nightstand, before laying down, staring up at the ceiling as I assumed Daryl did the same.

"I'm sorry." I sighed.

"For what?" He asked lowly.

"This." I shrugged, feeling like I might have made a mistake, "If you rather go back to Rick's, I'll be ok here, I promise."

Seconds went by before my heart dropped as I felt him get up out of the bed; the empty space already making my heart feel bare.
That all quickly changed though when I felt the bed dip again, the covers lifting as he slid in under them.

"Thank you." I breathed out shakily, emotion threatening to spill.

He didn't say a word; his hand sliding under the covers and immediately finding mine, sending a chill through my body that instantly relaxed my mind, making all my worries melt away.

As the minutes seemed to fly by, I felt myself desperate to hear his voice, even though he was laying right beside me.

"Why did you stop Rick from letting me help with the herd?" I asked again, the question refusing to leave my mind.

"I told ya, I seen ya with 'em-"

"But I could've stayed off to the side-- at a distance, you know?" I cut him off, pleading the possibility.

"Nah, I'da taken ya with me," he mumbled, "An I'm leadin' the whole damn thing away-- I don't want ya around that."

"Why would I go with you?" I asked confused, turning over to him a bit.

He looked over to me for a second before back up at the ceiling, shrugging, "Don't want nothin' to happen to ya."

I nodded slowly, taking in his answer as a small smile creeped onto my face, hidden by the darkness of the room, "Thank you." I whispered, laying back down beside him, only now a bit closer.

"Mhm." He grumbled.

My eyes slowly opened as the sound of the 90s style alarm clock on my nightstand went off; for once my body and mind feeling like they hadn't run a marathon.
I rubbed my eyes, remembering that I hadn't slept alone last night before rolling over, but to my dismay, the other side of the bed was empty.

I let out a sigh, sitting up and stretching before heading to take a shower and begin a day I couldn't help but be nervous about.

"Morning sunshine!" Rosita joked, the sun glaring into her eyes as she leaned against a car, cleaning one of the rifles.

"Morning." I chuckled, leaning beside her as my eyes scanned the large group of people for Daryl before I spotted him talking to Rick and Glenn, "So, who else are we waiting on?"

"Just Carter and Heath, I think." She shrugged.

"Liz," Rick called as he noticed us, walking over to where we stood, "Holly, Spencer-- could you both come over here?"

They quickly complied, coming over to where Rosita and I stood.

"Have you all worked a schedule out yet?" He asked.

We all looked back and forth to each other before Spencer spoke up, "Well I figured Rosita and Holly could get first watch and Liz and I could take second."

Rick nodded, glancing over to me, "That work for all of you?"

There was a collective 'yeah' that could be heard, along with the nodding of heads.

"Well ok then," he nodded again, "I want all of you to have your handguns and knifes on you at all times; Alexandria is weaker when we're not all together and I want you all to be prepared no matter what."

"You can count on us." Holly added.

"I know I can, that's why I chose all of you." He smiled, "The dry run shouldn't take more than a few hours, so consider this a dry run for watch as well."

"Rick." Glenn called, flicking his head over to the two Alexandrian's they'd been waiting on, causing Rick to go up to the front of the group and begin speaking.

"Now that we're all here, I just want to go over a few things so we can get through this as easy as possible." He began, "I know this is just a dry run, but that doesn't mean you can let your guard down-- anything can happen out there and it will. Keep your weapons ready and your eyes open. Any questions?" He asked, looking into the quiet crowd of people in front of him, "Ok, let's head out then."

As everyone began grabbing their things and loading into cars, Rosita and Holly grabbed the guns, heading over to the watch tower, "Spencer, Liz!" She called out, walking backwards with a rifle over her shoulder, "Wanna take second shift in about two hours?"

I nodded, looking over at Spencer before back at Rosita, "Works for me!"

My focus then quickly changed when I heard the roar of Daryl's motorcycle from behind where I stood, causing me to turn around and see that he was already looking my way.

I made my way over to him, memories of what he said last night replaying in my mind as he let his bike quietly idle.

"Ya gonna be ok here?" He asked.

"Yeah," I said, looking back to where Spencer stood, "I think we've got everything under control."

He nodded, swinging his crossbow over his shoulder before looking back over to me, "If anythin' happens when I'm not here, don't ya hesitate for nothin' Liz, got it?"

I hesitantly nodded at what he was implying, "Got it."

And with that, he revved his engine again, about to follow behind the rest of the group before I grabbed his arm, getting his attention.

"Please come back.." I breathed out.

"I will," he nodded, our eyes locked, "Promise."
