"...and I have the NAPLAN test this year, oh God, how was the test last year?" Anna asked me, as we walked home from school that day. We only catch the bus to school but always walked home.

"Don't stress it, seriously, it's nothing," I muttered, pulling my bag straps higher as they were digging painfully into my shoulder. Anna noticed it and asked to borrow the bag.

I pretty much trusted her with my life, so I gave it to her without asking any questions. She took off her bag and put my bag on. Anna then fiddled and pushed and pulled the bag straps in and out this hole thing and finally gave it to me. Wow. It was now high up on my back that it felt lighter and comfortable.

"Hey, thanks," I smiled. Anna shrugged modestly. Anna Laurence. You go, girl.

It had been exactly one year after we sat down in the middle of the oval, under the stars, telling each other our dreams. I was now in grade six and she was in grade five.

"Oh yeah, guess what? I managed to solve the Rubik's Cube last night!" Anna said excitedly. Rubik's Cube was really a big thing that time, everyone was buying it and playing it. "Well, yeah I still had to use the instructions and algorithm stuff but I did it!"

"Good job," I nodded. "I don't bother on the three times three times three one, the two times two times two is easier."

"Yeah, it's just the corner pieces, while the normal three times three Rubik's Cube has that edge piece that you need to do," replied Anna.

"I want a Mirror Rubik's Cube," I said, imagining the complicated sides.

"Same, it's a good challenge," she agreed. "Which one would be easier, in Mirror Rubik's Cube, the colourful ones or just the one colour one?"

"I don't know, probably the multi colour one," I shrugged.

"Really? I thought the one coloured one would be harder, as it only has one colour and you don't know which side it is on," Anna said. She's one smart girl.

We reached the oval where our homes were. I looked at the oval and saw Dave and Nathan wrestling each other to get the soccer ball.

"Wanna have a kick-around later?" she asked me. "After I change, of course."

"Yeah, sure. See you later," and I went in my house. Ivan was not home yet, you never knew what sort of mischief he was up to. But then again, he was a good, sensible boy outside of the family. I fought with him all the time, but he was nice outside the family. Don't tell anyone that. Everyone sees us to hate each other. He was in grade four, younger than Anna by a year, me by two years.

I changed to my soccer kit and ran up to the field, only to see Ivan having a one-on-one with Anna, his uniform still on.

"Oi, Ivanna!" I called out. He ignored me. "Oi, Ivanna! Ivanna!"

"Will you shut up?" He called back.

"Change from your motherfucking uniform first!" I said. I saw Anna flinched a bit from the swear word. Oh, right, she was a good girl, raised in a sensible and polite family.

"Go away!" Ivan shouted. I smirked, as he would have said 'piss off' if we were in the house.

"Mum's gonna kill you if you get it dirty, idiot!" I yelled at him.
