dan's pov

"good morning! i fixed you breakfast," Phil smiled sheepishly. "it's a bowl of cereal-that's the only thing i can't burn."

i laughed excitedly and grabbed his slim waist, pulling him towards our bed where i was cuddled up. he set the tray on the wooden bedside table next to us and climbed into the bed next to me. my arms were wrapped around his torso, my cheek laying on top of his soft, messy hair.

"thanks for making me breakfast in bed," i mumbled happily. "i love you."

he sat up so we could face each other. "i love you too," he paused and stared into my eyes attentively. the colourful orbs i constantly found myself getting lost in looked over my face. it was as if he were trying to send me a message mentally.

"we should do something special," he said eventually. "we only get one wedding anniversary."

i opened my mouth to correct him but he put a pale finger to my lips, shushing me. "i meant, we only get one once a year, and since this is the first one, we have to make it count."

i smiled wistfully, thinking back to the year before. it was this exact day, the sixth of april, in the year 2022, that we had gotten married. it had been a cold and windy wednesday, with a hazy glow of sunlight streaming through the cottony clouds.

the date that we wed didn't actually have some sort of significant meaning, we had just chosen it because it was the exact day in between our birthdays. Phil came up with the idea, and i agreed. it was really original, and i was feeling quite satisfied as i had wanted to get married in the spring.

i twisted the onyx coloured band around my ring finger, running my thumb over the words engraved in a fiery gold. it reads "Dan and Phil" in swirly cursive letters. now before you roll your eyes and snort at stupid it sounds, let me explain.

we had wanted our wedding to show how we were perfect for each, but still had some differences. for example, my suit was black. the jacket, the undershirt, and even the bow tie. Phil's, on the other hand, was navy blue with minuscule white dots decorating the pants and jacket. his formal shirt was a pastel blue, similar to the colour of the sky on a dreary day. his bow tie was black however, and decorated with light blue cat whiskers. he looked absolutely stunning.

for the rest of the wedding, we showed lots of other contrasts between the two of us. there were black roses and bright blue forget-me-nots decorating the room, and the flower girl had sprinkled a mixture of glittery green and dark grey sequins (we decided against flower petals) down the isle, to name a few examples. for the rings though, we wanted to represent how we are united. that we are each other's other half.

when we started coming up with ideas for the rings, we had lots of creative inputs. we knew that they had to match and that they needed to say something special. Phil is quite fond of the traditional gold band, but i wanted something more original. we decided to compromise and have black rings with gold wording.

then we had to decide what it should say. we thought about putting the date we first met, the days we uploaded our first videos, even the wedding date itself. but eventually we opted to put words on it. first we thought about simply putting "phan" but decided that would a bit weird to have to explain to everyone what it meant.

"oh it's just the ship name we chose for ourselves and our viewers back when we were younger, which eventually led to phanfictions and the name of the phandom."

i wasn't very comfortable with telling my relatives about that. or strangers.

i then tried thinking of a short, yet witty statement to overall describe our relationship, while Phil came up with ironic puns. although he had some good ones, we realised we wanted something simple, something that summed up us in a few words.

and what could describe us better than our names? it's what we were known as. "Dan and Phil" was practically our branding. it seemed fitting, so we went with it. though, after seeing the reactions of our families, and hearing the explanations for their laughter, we sort of understood why they thought it was stupid.

but we didn't care, and i still don't. i love seeing it everyday, symbolising all we'd accomplished and what we still had to look forward to. i think it's perfect, showing how we've created our own little universe together. we shared a deep connection, and a beautiful past.

it also gave our fans something they could connect to. the main reason we chose that specific phrase is because that's how our audience addressed us. without all of our subscribers, we probably wouldn't have been as successful in life, and maybe not even together.

if Phil had never gotten popular, then i might have never discovered his channel. then look at where we'd be.

actually, i believe that  we still would have found each other, he's my soulmate after all, but things would be significantly different. so i'm glad it turned out this way. we owe it to our fans, and to a black and white camera that came with a box of cereal.

(it's ironic his whole career started with a box of his cereal, considering how now he only eats mine.)

a/n sorry it's so short, and it's not much of a story per say, but i liked it. what did you think?
