The door to Lincoln and Wyatt's room was open when I arrived. Curious, I peered inside to see what the pair was up to. I was amused to find that Wyatt was actually packing his bag, but my mate was nowhere to be found.
Hearing my chuckle at his behavior, Wyatt turned to me, "He left a while ago." He shoved a pair of pants into the suitcase before continuing, "Judging by our conversation earlier, I figured you were both busy and decided to pack up."
Rolling my eyes, I crossed the room and sat on the bed next to his- the one that Lincoln was supposed to be in last night. A smile fought its way onto my face when the memories of this morning came to my mind, but I quickly hid it, "It's not like that."
"Yeah right," he chuckled. "Do me a favor and tell him to do a better job at keeping our mind link blocked. It's disturbing to hear how lovesick he is," Wyatt threw in a fake shiver for dramatic effect.
An embarrassed groan sounded from the doorway. After turning, I saw that my mate running his hand through his hair, "Seriously, man?"
"You should be strategizing how to sway your father's opinion of me. I didn't daydream about you all day," I chastised him. It wasn't a total lie either. Today had been eventful for me, but I couldn't deny that I caught my mind wandering toward Lincoln several times. The difference was that I had remembered to block my mind link, so there weren't any witnesses to my private thoughts.
Lincoln shook his head at me as a smile appeared on his face, "Can't you just be flattered by the fact that you have completely obliterated my ability to think of anything but you?"
"Even I'm smart enough to know that if she was flattered she'd never show it," Wyatt looked at Lincoln like it was the most obvious assumption while closing his suitcase. It was apparent to me that Wyatt would make a great Beta despite his temper. The honesty with which he interacted with others was both annoying and admirable. Regardless of his misgivings he was a great judge of character, hitting the nail on the head with his assessment of me.
"Wow, you know me so well! Let's be best friends!" I joked, clapping my hands together excitedly. My actions earned me a glare from the man I was addressing, but I just laughed and shrugged my shoulders in return.
"Honestly, if Lincoln keeps saying shit like that I may take you up on that offer," he looked at Lincoln like he had lost his mind. As I fought to hold back a laugh, Lincoln rolled his eyes at Wyatt.
I patted him on the back, deciding to poke fun at him again, "Don't worry Wyatt, I'm not going to steal your only friend."
He flipped me off and went to leave the room, "I'm going somewhere that isn't filled with uncomfortable sexual tension." Lincoln's booming laugh filled the room, and I picked up a pillow and chunked it at his head. He ducked at the last second, avoiding the attack.
"Better luck next time, loser," he called over his shoulder before closing the door behind him.
A comfortable silence settled over the room, and I looked at Lincoln before deciding to get right to the point, "I know that we talked about it briefly, but-"
"But you're going to mark me today. I understand, there's a lot riding on whether or not I can get my pack to agree to align with yours," Lincoln cut me off, but didn't seem angry. "Now that the weird part is out of the way, can we act normal with each other?"
I felt a sense of gratitude toward my mate, because he had taken care of the awkwardness for me. It was nice to not have to explain the situation. Feeling the weight of uncertainty I had felt about bringing up marking Lincoln leave me, I stood and approached him.
Being around him made my body do the craziest things. Like right now my chest felt so tight, but in a good way. Almost like that feeling you have when your sitting at the edge of a cliff looking down at the water right before you jump. The height causing you to be equal parts excited and nervous.
Once I reached him, I didn't touch him. Instead I looked up into his green eyes, "You've got quite the fan club here, I'm sure they'll hate to see you go."
"Is that so?" He chuckled while wrapping his arms around my waist loosely. "Who's a part of that?"
I felt his interlocked hands resting against the dip of my back. Heat radiated through my body at the point of contact. Loving the feeling, I rested my arms on his shoulders and used my fingertips to play with the curled ends of his hair, "Every female pack member under the age of nine is borderline obsessed."
He nodded his head, taking a second before bring one of his hands up to cup my cheek, "What about the female's over the age of nine? I've had my eye of a brunette, probably around 18." The smirk he had kept hidden found its way onto his face.
"I think I recall there being one of those," I winked at him and nuzzled my face into his neck. I took a deep breath, taking in his smell. His scent was subtle, mostly reminding me of the woods at the beginning of the fall. There was another scent too, and I smiled to myself while trailing my nose up to his ear I whispered, "You smell like honeysuckle, I loved those as a kid. We have bushes all over the territory."
I felt his chest rumble as he replied, "I'll have to plant some at home for when you visit."
My mind and my body felt like they were on different planets. On one hand, my body was more than ready to mark Lincoln. My canines has extended, and all I needed to do was choose the place I'd put the mark. On the other hand, my mind was filled with worry. Moments like right now made me want nothing more than to follow through with our mate bond, but I knew that there was a rough road ahead of us. Despite our best efforts, this may not ever work.
"Get out of your head," he whispered, pulling my chin up so that we were looking into each other eyes. "I understand how difficult this decision was for you to make, but I need you to know that even if we weren't mates I'd fight for you back home. There's a reason we are destined for each other, we can do accomplish anything together love."
I captured his lips with mine, needed to feel the connection with him I had missed since this morning. A low growl left his chest as he pulled me closer to him, deepening the kiss in the process. His hands tangled into my long hard, pulling my head back to give him better access to my mouth.
Basking in the glorious feeling of being this close to him, I planting kisses from his cheek down to the base of his neck. When I reached the place just above his collarbone my voice came out breathy, "This is going to hurt."
"I'll be fine," his voice came out low.
Taking a deep breath, the smell of honeysuckle overwhelmed my senses and my canines extended once again. No longer hesitant, I lowered my mouth onto my mates throat. A small gasp of pain crossed his lips as my teeth broke his skin. I felt like a rush of endorphins has been released into my system, and as I began to draw flood all I could focus on was how good this felt.
The floodgates must have opened for Lincoln too, because the tightness in his muscles had relaxed and he turned his neck giving me better access. Pulling away from him, I took notice of the blood on his neck.
Reading my mind, he used his grip on my head to pull my forehead against his, "I honestly don't give a shit about the blood. If you're about to send me away, I'm going to need to commit the taste of your lips to memory."
I complied as his lips made contact with mine, and I felt a smile appear on my mates face. I was also now keenly aware of his emotions, and his happiness was contagious to say the least. Diving in head first I decided that for now I'd enjoy my mate, becauseI may not have to option to.
