"It's an incredibly difficult thing to bring a giraffe down. They can kill a lion with a single blow from their feet." - Joanna Lumley

--

Despite being the tallest living terrestrial animal, the giraffe doesn't like to make friends. It would rather be with words, because at least words cannot fight back. It learned early on that an expansive neck and long legs only get you so far. Words, to the giraffe, is life's greatest irony - good enough to be picked on, but bad enough to chew (no wonder giraffes have black tongues).

It's a fact that giraffes rarely lay down; they sleep and even give birth standing up. Yet words are its biggest weakness. Words can simultaneously express so little and so much, which is why the giraffe can only bow down in awe.
