Avoiding the sudden death ending will make your story better

I teach romance writing and in my class, I have a rule:

NO ONE SHOULD SUDDENLY DIE OR BE RUSHED TO THE HOSPITAL BECAUSE OF AN UNEXPECTED SERIOUS ILLNESS IN YOUR LAST FEW CHAPTERS.

I call this my "Killing Derek Ramsay" rule that many local telenovelas and movies use. You'll notice that Derek Ramsay has been killed off in many of the movies and shows he's in, para paandarin ang plot.

You are free to do this of course (you are free to do anything) but to impress romance readers, you have to avoid this tired plot device. It comes out of nowhere and disrupts your story.

If you've already used this ending in one of your stories, then great. Quota ka na. In your next story, think of another way to end it, without using death or accident, and that's how you improve as a writer, and improve the quality of all work by young authors. :)

Challenge accepted ba? :)
