Ch-36 Pestilence 1.5 (this is just halfway into pestilence the rest of the hungry peasants shall be revealed in the next chapter)

“I’m sorry what?” I stuttered staring down at a terrified Lissa. She just nodded her head frantically trying to get that thought in my head. I nodded slightly, trying to get my mind to focus.  I gingerly picked Lissa up and guided her back to my room. The peasants were eating people? That's preposterous!

I sat Lissa down on my bed and went to my bathroom to get her a glass of water, upon returning I noticed she had curled herself up and held on tight to my comforter, her raven black hair was splayed across my pillow and her maid uniform was crinkled and a mess.  She was singing softly to herself and every now and then she would check my door, I had locked it for obvious reasons.

If what Lissa said was true then I needed to find my father and ask him about it, maybe it was just some sick rumour and everyone was getting in a tizzy. I gentle shook Lissa and jumped back when a blood curdling scream wracked her body.

“Lissa! Calm down, here’s some water,” I said to her gently helping her up and handing her the glass, she took it in her shaking hands almost dropping half its contents to the ground.  I urged her to take sips and gradually she calmed down.

“Wait here, I'm going to find my father.”

“No!” she yelled and gripped the back of my shirt pulling me to a stop. “Please don’t go,” she whispered to me softly. I turned around and gripped her face in my hands.

“Listen Lissa, nothing is going to hurt you, ok? I will be back soon, please just drink your water and try to sleep.” I said and walked away but turning quickly to check if she was following my instructions. She had laid back down on my bed the comforter squashed in her tiny hands. The hallways had gone quiet and I crept along them towards my father’s room, hopefully he would be there.

I rounded the corner looking for my father and stopped dead in my tracks...a trail of blood leaked from his meeting room. I didn’t allow myself a moment to think, I ran forward gripping the handle of the door and ripping it open. Adrenalin pumped through my body, I stopped dead in my tracks, my throat started closing, my eyes were dry my palms were starting to itch.

“Cole,” I breathed as I ran forwards to my brother’s body; his eyes were vacant, staring up at the ceiling his clothes were ripped to pieces and his throat was ripped out from his body. Blood there was so much blood, his life source was drained on the crystalline floor. Tears ran down my face, “Cole!” I yelled touching his face, I knew he was dead, he had bled to death. I screamed out in frustration if only I had come sooner I could have saved him. I laid my head down onto his stomach and I cried.  To lose someone. It was a big thing and to lose my brother...to me it was unimaginable, Cole was always there for me, being my brother and all, I love my big brother and to see his lifeless body before me...it’s taking all my willpower not to crawl into a ball and just cry. I don’t care if that makes me sound like a sissy, he is my brother and he is gone.

My brother was dead, dead is such a powerful word, saying it and actually meaning it really rips right through your soul. I lifted my head up slowly and I gently closed his eyes. My nose was stinging and my eyes had gotten all puffy, my lips were dry and my body was trembling. I slowly pushed myself up, I needed to be strong. I just needed to.

I surveyed the room, the curtains were torn and bloodied the windows were broken and shattered, the tables was turned over and the chairs were broken. I looked at it all my eyes wide in shock.
