Cold grass cut through their sweatshirts like a swift blade slashes tires.  Gradual, but it allowed enough time for the duo to lean back in their backyard and fantasize. 

"Hey, Edd, if you were able to visit any planet, which one would it be?"

"Hm, I've never thought about it... except for maybe once when the cola cans had that space theme," he sighed and shivered as the wind caught ahold of any lose strands of hair it could consume," How about you go first, Matt?"
"No, I can't think, either.  I'm sure you have some idea, right?"
"Fine, if you insist," the gravity shifted," I would... visit... Venus."
"Why?  There's nothing special about it?"

"You say that now, Matt, but how could you over look such a unique planet like that?  Venus is one of the sister planets of earth, just like Mars.  It mightve been just like us at one point, too... probably 100,000 years after it formed, since the water dried up.  The erosion there is crazy!  The rock melts away, and the planet might even have plate tectonics."  Edd took a breath and waited anxiously for Matts reaction.  He knew Matt had no idea of any of that, but he had no problem explaining every bit of astrology to his best friend.

Matt didn't have a reaction; his brain blocked out most of it, honestly.  He didn't want to make himself seem shallow, so he stayed perfectly still, just as they tell you to do when you see a bear.

Thoughts flowed like the great floods of Mars, only brought up to surface by great impact.

"...you wanna know which planet I'd visit?"
"Where would you go?"
"I'd stay here.  I'd be able to be with you every day," he took Edds hand in his own, "just how it is now."

(a/n I highly recommend listening to The Planets by Gustav Holst.  It's so beautiful?? Favorite movements are Saturn, bringer of old age, and Neptune, the Mystic.  I literally just read a 1985 National Geo magazine regarding everything space and my mom has a lot of nat geo books smh.  Sorry for long note, but I might write Popee the Performer if you guys want ((at jordan)))
