Chapter 1: Rookies
I walked into work today , expecting to be quickly briefed on a top secret mission that I would be soon embarking on. I walked into Mycroft's office and closed the door behind me. He glanced up at me as I walked in, a blank expression on his face.
"Gwen , your going to be examining some of our new recruits." Mycroft said. I sighed in annoyance, rolling my eyes as I crossed my arms.
"So I'm basically training the rookies. Right?" I asked in annoyance.
"Yes, now don't be too tough on them. I still want them all in once piece" he mumbled.
"Just peachy" I mumbled to myself.
I sighed then went to go change into workout clothes, I knew that today was going to be a long day. There was a line of twelve guys in the training room, I walked in and stood in front of them.
"So you're the rookies eh?" I mumbled.
"Yeah are you the trainer?because if you are you're not much" one of the boys said cheekily. I glared at him not in the mood to deal with this attitude.
"Oh so you really think you can take me?" I asked crossing my arms over my chest with a devilish grin on my face.
"Yeah, you're a girl plus you're like what five-two?" the guy laughed.
" Actually, I'm five-four and this girl used to be a FBI agent, so please hit me with your best shot" I said walking out onto the mat. The guy laughed a bit with his buddies before walking over to me.
"I can't hit a girl" he said softly.
"So? What if your enemy is a girl? Will you risk the safety of your country for that reason? Don't be a chicken, hit me with your best shot." And with those words He quickly swung at me, I dodged his hit then took a step back as I ducked quickly and rolled, avoiding another punch from my opponent. Within seconds I was back on my feet. He swung again only to get a counter punch from me, he was quick and grabbed my arm then flipped me over. I grunted slightly as my body hit the floor. I wasn't able to get back up because he was now sitting on me.
"Not bad rookie" I laughed as I suddenly flipped him over on his back and pinned his hands above his head.
"Rule number one never loose focus" I said with a menacing glare. It took all of my strength to not burst out in laughter at all the comments that his fellow boys were making. I knew I probably just humiliated that guy Nd frankly I didn't care.
"Ohhhhh man she just owned you!"one of the boys yelled.
"Dude I wish I was him" another mumbled a little too loudly for my liking.
"Seriously Mycroft, these are the people you might have guarding the queen? Pathetic, if I can defeat them this easily you're in trouble" I scoffed as I got up and grabbed a towel to wipe the sweat off of my face.
" They are only possible recruits. Not to mention they lack the seven years of training that you have. You are dismissed for the day, we wouldn't want you making fools of anyone else " Mycroft said as he crossed his arms. I rolled my eyes and headed my way outside of the room. The man I had just been sparring with hurried up and followed behind me.
"So you never did tell me your name, mine's Sean Becksworth. I really did admire your fighting skills. Is it true you used to be in the FBI ?" he said. He was a tall man, towering over me at six-two. He had green eyes and blonde hair, he was a decent looking kid,but I wasn't interested. I glanced at him, it was amazing how guys could change around other guys.
"The names Gwen and yes it's true. Why are you being so nice now? Finally got some respect after a girl kicked your butt?" I said with a small smile.
"No, I-I mean yes. I was wrong to underestimate you" he said softly. I walked over and grabbed my duffle bag down from my locker.
"Well it's good you learned a valuable lesson from embarrassment" I said with a slight laugh. He blushed slightly and rubbed the back of his head.
" I know this is really fast but uh, would you be available for dinner sometime this week?"he asked.
"Thanks but I'm married, I don't think my hubby would be okay with that. Plus I have two kiddos to take care of." I said as I pulled out my wedding ring from my duffle bag. It was required of us to take off all jewelry when we sparred.
"Oh, who's the lucky guy? You really are a young mom, I wouldn't have guessed that" Sean said leaning up against the locker next to mine.
"Sherlock Holmes" I said with a warm smile.
"THE ...Sherlock Holmes? Brother of that guy in there?" He said pointing towards the training room with a look of awe on his face. I laughed and nodded as I grabbed my stuff and slung it over my shoulder.
"Yeah, it's pretty awesome. I felt the same way when I met Sherlock for the first time" I said softly. Sean smiled at me,
"Well it was nice getting to know you a bit Gwen. Hopefully, I make it out of the recruits and work for Mr.Holmes. Maybe I'll even have you as my trainer" he said with a grin.
"Nice to meet you Sean. I'm wishing you the best of luck" I said as I walked down the hall. I glanced at my phone to check the time, I had to be over at Mary's at five to help her plan last minute details of her wedding. I sighed slightly getting in my car and driving as fast as I could to the flat. It had been a few months since I had gotten those threatening letters, and the words had never left my mind. It constantly worried me, I still didn't know where or who it was from. I pulled into the street before our flat, I had 15 minutes to shower then I had to leave in order to be on time. I smiled as I ran up the stairs, both of the boys were at their grandparents house so I would have to remember to pick them up later . Unlocking the door I gently pushed the door open, I had no idea if Sherlock would be home or not, but I really hoped he was.
"Babe?" I called softly. It was only seconds before I had two strong arms wrapped around me. My face pressed against his warm chest, I still sometimes forgot I was pretty short compared to Sherlock, he has a good eight inches on me. He leaned down and pressed his lips against mine, I pushed him backwards as I closed the door behind us. His hands rested on my hips and gently pulled me closer to him, I chuckled slightly pulling away to take a breath.
"I have to get to Mary's in fifteen. Plus I am still sweaty from training the rookies today, so I don't think we have time for that." I said gazing up at him with a giggle. The funny thing was for someone who hid his emotions a lot, Sherlock was a very passionate lover. He chuckled softly,
"Mmmm fine. John should be coming over later to discuss something with me." He said softly.
"Oh are y'all planning the bachelor party?" I asked as I walked over to the bathroom. I quickly stripped then jumped into the shower.
"No, something else I believe." He said softly. I showered quickly then ran into our room to change into a tank and a pair of yoga pants.
"Oh are you guys over your fight?" I asked softly. Less then a week ago, John and Sherlock got into some sort of fight, which turned into a brawl between the two. It was not very pretty. Sherlock sighed softly and walked into the kitchen.
"I have been over it, he's just still captious towards the topic" he mumbled as he sat down and looked in a microscope. I smiled then ran my fingers through his hair and kissed his head.
"Well, I hope everything goes well, I'll be back with the kiddos later" I said with a smile.
"Have fun with Mary, but not too much. I want you home before I go to sleep" Sherlock said with a slight smile. I tilted his head back and placed a soft kiss on his lips then winked at him. I grabbed my keys then headed out the door and ran to my car. Getting In my car I started to drive towards Mary's house. I sighed softly, glancing at the letter that I kept in my car. A nauseous feeling came over me as my heart started pounding in my chest. With every beat of my heart the words kept repeating in my head. First they were whispers, but they then turned into screams. As I drove up to Mary's I did my best to keep myself composed, no one knew of these hidden anxieties I had or of the threatening note. To be honest I just want to put it all behind me, at least until after Mary's wedding. Then maybe I could tell someone about it. I parked then walked up to the door and knocked. Mary answered the door with a warm smile and then pulled me into an embrace.
"Gwen! It's been so long since I've seen you. Man! You sure lost that baby weight fast, you're one sexy momma" she beamed as I walked in. I've lost the baby weight plus some I thought to my self. I smiled at her.
" It has! Yeah this is what extra training hours get you, I think I'm finally getting back in shape again" I said as we walked to the kitchen. Mary sighed slightly,
"Have John and Sherlock made up yet? I'm tired of John constantly moping around the house" Mary laughed as she out the kettle on. "Would you like a cup of tea dear?" She asked softly. I shook my head.
" I don't believe so, no thank you. I'll be up all night if I have tea now" I said with a small smile.
"How are the charming boys?" Mary asked.
"Sky is going to be just like his father, it's so crazy how similar they are at times. Somedays Sky just sits and observes things other days he's exploring everything. Seren on the other hand is more vocal and athletic just like me. In fact, yesterday Seren started to slowly walk" I said with a big smile.
"Awh! Are you two planning on having another one anytime soon?" She asked with a big grin. I chuckled, Sherlock and I haven't really talked about having another child. I personally was terrified to have another child but at the same time I kinda wanted another one.
"I would have to talk to Sherlock about that, but I personally want a girl" I said softly. Mary giggled.
"I bet she will look just like you, since the boys look more like their father" she smiled.
"Are you excited for your wedding? it's coming up very soon"I asked. She nodded.
"John is really the most amazing man I have ever met. We are so lucky to be together" she said with a giggle. I smiled as I listened to her tell me how he preposed to her and how much of a ruckus Sherlock had caused the first time he attempted to. She beamed with every word she said, a true pure joy coming off of her. I was happy for the two they deserved to be together. I visited her for a few more hours before finally heading to pick up both of the boys then heading back home. Both Seren and Sky were fast asleep in the back of my car, I carried them up into their room, tucked the in their beds, then gave them a goodnight kiss. I kicked off my shoes, exhausted. It had been a very long day and in a few hours I would have to do it all again. Slowly shuffling to my room, I gently opened the door and found Sherlock fast asleep on the bed, I laid next to him and wrapped my arms around him before closing my eyes. For the first time in a long time the threats did not reappear in my mind as I slept.
