It's been almost a month since school started, they were at the beginning of October already which meant the school was spending half the budget on lame decorations. Not to mention the Halloween dance, Dan always hated those. Nobody even wore real costumes. The girls wore lingerie of some sort and animal ears or a tail to make it look like they actually tried on their outfits. It made Dan sick, honestly. But it also means he would have to have another doctor visit. It didn't particularly bother Dan since his mother promised they were going to do much more then just ask questions and check up on him. But they were going to have questions for Dan which meant his mother made him take a white board to answer their questions. Dan just wanted it to be January already. He can't believe he was thinking this, but he couldn't wait for the surgery.

The ride was much longer. It's times like these were Dan misses music most of all. He really enjoyed music when he could hear. He especially liked My Chemical Romance and Muse, he even heard Fall Out Boy was coming out with a new album. He couldn't wait for music and so much more when he could hear again.

His mum passed him a notebook half way through the car ride. It explained what exactly was going to happen as soon as they got in there. This place was for people with disabilities. They helped people learn to walk, they make hearing aids for the deaf. Dan wished his condition was that simply, his eardrums had holes in them. Which meant before they could even think of making him hearing aids they need to patch them up again, thats what the surgery was for. Dan just hoped it work.

Prior to the hour long car drive over there was a twenty minute wait. It didn't seem to bother his mum, but the again nothing seemed to bother him mum. His phone vibrated in his pocket, he'd almost forgot it was there. Maybe he could pass the time scrolling through Tumblr but everyone was at school already. He took it out and saw a text from Phil

P: how the doctors

D: BORING send help

P: can't be as boring as maths

D: YOUR IN CLASS?

D: get off the phone you dildo you'll get in trouble

P: yeah it's whatever she can't see me anyway

Dan couldn't help but laugh. Phil was an absolute nut. Their friendship has grown since the beginning of the year. It was much more then just innuendos and weird facial expressions. They'd learned about each other and cared. Last time Dan told Phil he was going to the doctor, he didn't even blink. But this time he asked Dan all sorts of questions. Why was he going, how long it would take, what was he going to do. Dan lied of course, he didn't want to tell Phil yet, even if it's been a month the world 'might' always stuck in Dan's head. What if he didn't get his hearing back would it upset Phil? He didn't want to see Phil upset. He cared, he knew Phil's been through a lot. Taking care of his niece almost everyday, his parents not being there. It must be hard. He wanted Phil to just be happy. His mum tapped him on the arm and motioned to the lady standing with a clip board. He quickly texted Phil back and got up.

Dan hated the doctors office, it smelled of cough syrup and melted plastic. Everything was so neat as well, it hurt Dan's head. They had to wait a while till the doctor came in. During the wait the nurse asked his mum questions before awkwardly waving at him and rushing out of the room. Dan smiled, she was adorable, reminds him of a shy puppy. Soon enough the doctor came in and shook both their hands. He had his mother sign some papers and talked to her for a bit. She laughed and nodded before turning to Dan and taking the whiteboard out of his hand. She handed it to the doctor who jotted down a question and handed it back to Dan.

Hello I'm Dr Adams I'll ask you a few questions if that alright

Okay good do your ears ever experience pain?

No not in a few year

Great, do they ever itch or turn color?

No

Splendid now are you sexuality active?

Dan felt his face heat up. He looked back up at his mum and Dr Adams to find them laughing. He let out a sigh of relief, thank God they were only joking. That would have been an awkward conversation. Dr Adams face turned serious once again as he turned to him mum. As they chatted his mum's face turned to one of concern, but she nodded anyway. Clearly agreeing to what he was saying. Once Dr Adams left she took the whiteboard off his desk.

They're going to take some x-rays of your ears okay? So we're moving to a different room once I sign some stuff.

He wrote back okay and leaned back on the examination table. Getting his x-rays taken never bothered him, it didn't hurt and it didn't take long. He should know, he broke him arm once when he was seven after he feel off he monkey bars.

Dr Adams was back a few minutes later with some papers. Him mum quickly signed them before handing them to him so he could print him name. Once they finished Dr Adams beckoned them out the door to the elevator at the end of the hall. As the rode up to the fourth he couldn't help but be a little nervous. What if his ears were permanently damaged and they couldn't perform the surgery? Unfortunately he didn't have time to actually ask about what would happen as the elevator door opened and they stepped out. He and his mum followed Dr Adams to a room marked 'x-ray room'. They stepped in and the first thing at caught his attention was the bed with a huge metal ball time thing at the end of it. The doctor when over to it and opened it. The motioned for Dan to get up on the bed. Dr Adams wrote something on the whiteboard and passed it to Dan

When this closes shut your eyes tightly and don't open them till it reopens it has a very bright light.

He nodded and layed back getting comfortable as he could with his head in the metal machine. It shut and he closed his eyes. He could still sort of see the light as it blinked once. Then twice. Then a third time. Then it opened. His head hurt, he felt really sleepy all of a sudden, but he had to wait it out till the x-rays finished printing. It didn't take less then ten minutes thankfully. Dr Adams spoke to his mum pointing at Dan's x-rays. They looked horrible truth be told. Imagine an old piece of paper poked with a thumb tack a thousand times. Thats what his eardrums looked like. Both of them, it was painful to look at. But Dr Adams looked happy. He looked at Dan and nodded. He held up the whiteboard.

They can be fixed Dan your gonna hear again

Dan turned to his mother to see that she was crying, but she looked so insanely happy. She hugged him and gave him a kiss on the cheek. Dan hadn't felt this happy in a while.

As they walked back to the car his phone vibrated.
