There's a knock at the door and I smile.

Finally. I'm so fucking happy.

I haven't seen her in a week, and I was starting to worry we might be falling apart. But she's here, just like she said she'd be, and she's beautiful.

"Hi, stranger," she says smiling as she steps inside and presses a quick kiss on my lips. Her playfulness is a relief; I've spent too much time overanalyzing what this moment would be like.

"Hi," I say, smiling widely as she finally steps fully inside. "It smells amazing in here," she adds, looking around me toward the kitchen. "Did you cook?"

"Maybe," I smirk.

No takeout this time.

We walk toward the kitchen and her eyes fall on the vase of roses sitting on the table.

"These are pretty," she says, reaching up and touch one of the petals, "Are they..." she starts, looking up at me.

"Well they aren't for Chase," I tease. "Of course they're yours,"

I walk up behind her and wrap my arms around her shoulders, drawing her back against my chest.

"Do you like them?" I ask softly.

"Very much," she says. Her hands reach up to touch my forearm still across her chest. I press a kiss to the back of her head. Jesus. I forgot how amazing her hair smells. I've missed her so much.

We may not have seen each other for a week, but it's not because we were in a fight; we talked on the phone almost every single night. The space was good, and it really put things into perspective for me. My life is so much better with her in it.

But still, I feel like I owe her an apology for the last time the two of us were in the same place.

"I'm not so good at the whole apology thing," I whisper in her ear. "But I am sorry for being short with you,"

She nods and her lips touch my forearm.

"Oh, hey, Harper," Chase says loudly, interrupting our moment with a smirk. "Ready for an amazing dinner?"

I release her from my hold and she spins in place to face me with a smile. I know what she's thinking; Chase hasn't sounded this happy in weeks. To be honest, I'm kind of confused, too, but I'll take what I can get with him. "Amazing, huh? What are we having?" She asks him.

"Didn't he tell you?" Chase's eyes shift to me and I smile. "We both made dinner. Chicken Parmesan. Your favorite,"

Her eyes light up, but I think it has more to do with Chase's change of attitude than dinner.

"Wow. I would've been fine with hamburger helper or takeout, but..." she teases. "I'm feeling spoiled, so thank you," she nods to both of us. "What's all this for,"

"It's an apology," Chase says seriously. "Turns out we're jerks. Turns out life really sucks without you. We missed you," his honesty is wonderful. This boy, so sad, so lost, needs us. "So we made apology chicken,"

I can't help but laugh; He has a funny way of explaining things, but it's just so Chase.

"Chicken is the best apology I think I've ever gotten," she says, looking at me happily. I get it. Chase has been the source of so much of our stress over the last few weeks, but now he's the one easing the mood. "I love it,"

There's a funny feeling kicking around in my gut, but I don't want to think on it too much. I just want to sit down with these two and enjoy this moment.
