About Akaname
The Akaname is a Japanese Yōkai depicted in Toriyama's Gazu Hyakki Yagyō. They are stated to lick the filth that collects in bathrooms. The akaname is the "personification of the fear of using a dark bathroom late at night."

~~

Appearance:
Akaname is a goblin-like yōkai (about the size of a child or small adult) that inhabits the dirtiest houses and public bathrooms. It appears naked and its hair is greasy and slimy like it's skin. It has an extremely long tongue and since 'aka' is in its name, it's tongue or whole body could be red.

~~

Behavior/Interaction:
Like cockroaches, rats, lice, and other pesky rodents, Akaname only appears when houses are dirty. They are shy and stay clear of humans, scattering in the light. They also lick on sick people and people who hate baths.

~~

Abilities:
Prehensile Tongue: Uses its tongue to lick/eat the dirt

~~

Target(s):
Anything (or anyone) dirty

~~

Need an escape plan?
Seeing how these creatures spread diseases, it's best to keep your house clean since they hate clean houses.

~~

Origin story:
Toriyama Sekin's work, Gazu Hyakki Yagyō, includes an early line drawing of an Akaname. He had no explanation for the drawing.
