About three days have passed and many people were in and out of my Aunt's house. When people from school found out people kept coming in. I locked myself in Josh's room with the twins. Why? like I said, not a lot of people know we're related and as for Erix he went out with Ray for a couple of shots at the park.
"When is Kaya coming?" Jena kept asking me
"I don't know ask your brother."
"Johnny when is Kaya coming?"
"Not Johnny but Josh." Jena walked out and later there were squeals coming from down the stairs. I grabbed Johnny's hand and rushed down the stairs just to be greeted by confused eyes.
"Ebony?" asked Holly.
"Hey..." I waved.
"Um..."Josh said. "that's my cousin."
"Wait... cousins?" asked Julian from the kitchen.
"Yeah! Ebony is the best cousin in the whole world!" Jena added. Great Jena, thanks.
"I didn't know..."
"Well! Joshy When is she coming?" Jena tugged on Josh's black flannel.
"She's on a family trip. She will be back soon."
I spent rest of the day babysitting and talking to people explaining to them how come we never told them we were related. Knowing Josh he wouldn't want to put Erix as the bad person so I came up with a new story.
"It's cause since Josh loves playing basketball and sports and I'm usually on the studying is important side, we don't really hangout as much at school." and such. As it got late, I spent it with my Aunt and my mother. I listened to their conversation as they talked to the speaker to my grandmother in Rome. At one point my mother appreciated my presence and asked me if I wanted food that she'll go and get it. I wasn't hungry at all, I mean, I haven't eaten anything in the past few days. I picked up the phone when it rang. It was General Coperbel. He said that my uncle hadn't died and in a thrill I went on and told the others.
That was good news for a change. Erix brought fried chicken back and most of the security had gone. Around eight, Xavier came by. The first thing he did was to go talk to Josh then to my aunt and parents. He came by a little later and he put his hand on my neck and forehead as if he were taking my temperature.
"You're pale," He said. "haven't you eaten anything?"
"I had a wing." I said.
"That's not enough. Here." Xavier got up and brought back three chicken breast and looked at me until I took a bite. Angie and Gabe came soon enough and joined me to eat.
"Kaya!" I heard Jena's voice echo through the whole house. Gabe and Angie looked at me for explanations but honestly I had nothing to say.
"Didn't you guys know? Kaya volunteers at Kist Elementary in the twin's summer class." Xavier explained. I tried not to seem annoyed for my little cousins' sake.
"Thanks for coming." Josh said.
"God, I would of come yesterday but I couldn't cause of stupid traffic in Utah! I'm so sorry Jay and I'm so happy!" Kaya embraced him with a huge hug. Hmmm...I took a piece of chicken to my mouth.
"My cousin Ebbey and Eri are here!" Jena clapped. Kaya managed not to give a face but she nodded at least. She came to the living room and locked eyes with me. When Josh left with Jena and Johnny to the backyard, Kaya looked down.
"I'm sorry about your uncle." She said to me. "At least he'll be home by tomorrow." Kaya Mullins was being nice to me. I would of cussed her out but the way the little ones adore her...gave me a whole new image of her. Now it's ninety five percent of hatred I have for her.
