What the hell just happened?

How should I feel about this?

How do I feel about this?

Jace just-

He just-

He-

And I was just staring at him with my mouth open.

"Lex I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you or anything... I just..."

He walked towards me, "I'm sorry, I just- I don't know."

It was then that I realized how close we were. Without thinking, I leaned in and pressed my lips to his. He seemed surprised at first, but responded quickly. Our lips moved in sync with each other, but then reality hit me... I was kissing Jace. I pulled away.

"I didn't mean to do that," I whispered.

"Don't be stupid," Jace responded, "You did mean to do that and I know that you like me."

I was beginning to get nervous, "I like you as a friend, and I didn't mean to do that."

"Lex, stop trying to cover up your feelings." Jace urged taking my hand.

"No. I'm not covering anything up." I angrily said.

"Yes you are." Jace replied annoyed.

"There's nothing to cover." I shouted as I stomped up the steps.

"Lex stop." Jace sighed, "You're making things more complicated than they need to be."

"No I'm not." I replied stubbornly.

"It's not that big of a deal."

"Well if it's not that big of a deal to you, I think I need a break." I retorted without thinking.

"Alexis." Jace snapped, "I didn't mean it like that."

I shrugged. "I need a break Jace." I replied.

"So what? You're just leaving?" Jace growled.

"Yes Jace, that is exactly what I'm doing." I snapped.

"You're leaving us?" A voice asked from the doorway of my room.

I had begun packing, and in my haste, had forgotten that the kids could still be up.

"Just for a little bit, Cal." I said softly.

Another voice added to the mix, "Why do you even have to leave at all?" Hallie whined. Her bottom lip had suck out and she had an adorable little pout. I was almost convinced to stay before I looked up to see Jace looking at me questioningly.

"Well Hal," I said gently, "I just need a break."

"From what?" She asked innocently.

"Ummm," I said hesitantly. My eyes unconsciously wandered to Jace, and while Hallie didn't notice this, two other someone's did.

"Jace what the fuck did you do?" Cal shouted.

"Cal don't use that word." I scolded.

"Don't tell me what to do, you're leaving us." Cal replied.

"I didn't do anything." Jace insisted.

"What did you do Jace? I hate you." Hallie screamed.

"Hallie!" I shouted, "Don't say that to your brother."

"Don't tell me what to do." She replied, copying Cal.

"What did he do, Lexi?" Cal asked, his voice wavering.

What a mess I'd created.

I looked up to see Jace looking at his two siblings with shock and hurt written across his face.

"Jace didn't do anything." I assured quickly as Halloe's eyes began to water.

"Then why are you leaving?" Cal asked lowly.

"I just need some time." I replied cautiously.

"Why do you need time?" Cal asked suspiciously.

"I just do, ok?"

"Why Lexi?" Cal pushed.

"Just shut up, Cal." Jace replied emotionlessly.

"Oh now I know you did something." Cal said accusatory, "What did you do Jace?"

"We kissed, ok?" Jace answered.

"And?" Hallie asked sweetly, "Whys that so bad?"

"Yeah, why? You guys could be like me and Lacy." Cal said naively.

"Well, you know what Cal? Lacy is cheating on you." Jace said sharply.

"What?" Cal asked shocked.

"What the hell Jace?" I exclaimed,  "You can't just drop that on him like that."

"Yeah well when we're you gonna tell him? You're leaving." Jace snorted haughtily.

"Jace stop being like this." I said sternly.

"Like what?" He asked feigning innocence.

"Lacy cheated on me?" Cal whispered.

"Cal-" I said moving to comfort him.

"No, get away." Cal said, "Just leave already."

"Yeah, just leave already." Hallie said, latching her arms around Cal's leg.

I opened and closed my mouth, deciding to grab my bag and just leave.

As I closed the door I heard Cal mutter, "I thought she cared about us."

"Guess it was too good to be true, huh?" Jace chuckled coldly.
