i took a deep breath.

tomorrow was the big day.

we played our piece

exactly thirty-seven times today,

just today,

and this was the least

number we've played it.

he gave me some reassurance,

and we decided to

practice until dusk.

by this time,

everyone had already gone home,

preparing for the recital.

i turned off the lights

and he carefully tucked

his instrument in its case.

as we joked around,

he tickled me,

and i yelled at him,

threatening that he should stop.

we played until we opened the doors.

when we stepped outside,

we were met with

the alarming voices

of some men

and our eyes met.

they yelled at us

and yoongi was on the ground

covered with blood on his face.

he yelled at us,

"run away! immediately!"

we were one step too late, however,

and the three guys left yoongi

on the bare cement

to jog over to us.

"ya, namjoon, look, it's the

music kids!" one of the boys

said, and he laughed.

he had such a pretty face

for an ugly personality.

taehyung pushed me away,

without saying a word.

i was too awestruck

to be able to do anything.

he fought them off,

but three against one

was not a fair game.

yoongi had enough strength

to run over to me

and hold me in his grasp,

but i tried to pull.

i heard taehyung's grunts

and groans

as they kicked him,

taunting him.

i screamed and i shrieked

for help,

but yoongi

had already carried

me away.

"who are those people?"

i cried, beating on yoongi's

arm for an answer.

he shook his head.

"former friends.

i don't really know if

i can call them friends, though."

tears poured down my face.

"are we just going to leave him there?"

i wept, my voice cracking.

yoongi's lips formed into a line.

"i couldn't do anything.

i'm sorry."

as yoongi ran into the distance

with me in his arms,

i saw the unpleasant mess

of punches and kicks

getting thrown

towards taehyung

fading away

from my vision.

i cursed at myself

for leaving the violinist there

all alone.
