Chapter Twenty-Seven

I finally found the phrase I got for Yukimura's line about being being twenty seven. Credits go to Michelle Hodkin.

"Oh god that was exhausting!!!" Shigezane panted from beside Mitsuhide...

However the man standing in front of the two samurai, the man who slashed and kicked down the door chambers, was more exhausted than his two comrades put together... But the tiredness left his body the moment his crystal blue eyes registered his wife safe and sound...

Yukimura didn't say anything as he ran towards Lina and hugged her tightly. His wife took a few seconds to register his presence and action before burying her face in his neck, clutching onto the front of his armor...

"Yukimura kun..." Lina whispered as sobs racked her shoulders. "I thought I would never see you again... I'm so sorry I said such mean things to you back then..."

"Ssshhh... You're safe now... Now I have you back in my arms, I guarantee you no one will ever take you away from me... I'll protect you with my life..." Yukimura whispered back into her ear as he saw Shigezane carrying Kojirou onto his back while Mitsuhide did the same to Sasuke...

Shigezane was about to interrupt the both of them when Mitsuhide elbowed him lightly.

"Give them a moment. You stand guard at the door and I'll stand guard at the only window in this chamber." Mitsuhide then turned to Yukimura. "You have three minutes."

Yukimura nodded as he soothed Lina's hair.

"Come on Princess... We need to go soon... Our comrades are risking their lives if we continue this... As much as I would love to prolong this moment, it is actually quite dangerous to do so..."

Lina gave a soft nod as she pulled away to look up at her husband, her eyes red and swollen...

"You... You said.. you will give your life to protect me... I... I thought... Your life was meant for... the Sanada clan...?" Lina asked in a soft whisper as she stared into his blue eyes...

Yukimura pondered over his thoughts as he chose his words carefully...

"It still is..."

"?"

"You are Lady Sanada are you not? Meaning I will give my life to protect the Sanada clan... Because you are Lady Sanada and furthermore.. you are the clan..."

"I... don't get it... I'm not in charge of continuing the clan... Isn't it the role of Nobuyuki's future wife to do so since your nii san is the eldest?"

"Yukimura, one more minute left." Shigezane called out...

Yukimura took a deep breath as his blue eyes stared into his wife's brown ones... He then raised his large hand to cup one side of her face.

"I know but... Somehow... You ended up with that role before his future wife..."

Lina's eyes widened slowly with realisation at Yukimura's words as she then shook her head slightly.

"Wait I just had my courses last month... Then how-..."

"Yuki said it was implantation bleeding and she and Saizo felt a foreign chakra in your womb since she has experience being a medical ninja... She told me back at Ueda castle as we were preparing for this war... That's why you've been craving for peaches and are so cranky recently..."

"Yukimura, twenty more seconds." Mitsuhide called out and he swallowed his saliva as he held Lina's hand.

"I'm... I'm really sorry I hurt you before... I promise I'll make it up to you once I get you out of here..." he apologised as Lina gave him a soft smile and nodded, allowing her husband to carry her on his back.

As they were making their exit, they run into a few samurai who tried to attack them...

"Well, we need to separate." Shigezane said simply as he slashed a samurai who stumbled across the three of them in one of the corridors of the stronghold. "Let's just meet back at the safe zone where we agreed upon during the war council."

"But if we separate, wouldn't it mean less teamwork? Meaning more danger? I don't mind being in the heat of the battle but we have people to protect here." Yukimura protested as Mitsuhide shook his head and replied..

"No Yukimura. Shigezane is right. If we fall, all of us fall. At least we have a higher chance of getting Lady Lina and the others to safety if we split up."

Yukimura's frows furrowed hesitantly as Lina clutched onto the armour of both of his shoulders.

"Yukimura kun... Let's do it... I know we'll make it through even if we separate.."

"But-..."

"I know I'll be safe with you around... You're here to protect me whatever happens... right?" she whispered soothingly into his ear as his body relaxed and he gave a slight smile before turning to his comrades.

"Alright, meet you guys back at the meeting point..."

"Haha! This is fun!" Toshiie laughed as he swung two swords to behead two samurai at the same time..

"Hey! You got my armour all filthy you mangy mutt!" Mitsunari snarled as he slashed off the arm of a samurai who tried to stab him from behind..

"What are you? A pansy ass fox who's afraid to get dirty with blood during a war? If you are then you shouldn't be a samurai!" Ieyasu chuckled with mockery, aiming and releasing three arrows at the same time and each arrow was a headshot for three different enemies.

"I don't mind being stained with the blood of enemies killed by Lord Nobunaga, Lord Hideyoshi or me!" Mitsunari snapped back in irritation.

"Come on lighten up Mitsunari! It's been a while since we've been to a major war like this since it's been a peace era for so long.. Not that I like wars but this time, I know for sure we are on the good side!" Hideyoshi called out cheerfully from a few meters, skilfully knocking out seven samurai with his sword's handle.

"Wow Lord Hideyoshi! You are skilled!" Hanbei complimented as he stood back to back with Hideyoshi.

"Skilled? He didn't even kill them!" Lord Nobunaga growled in detest as Hideyoshi threw him a kind smile.

"You know Mitsuhide and I have a lot in common regarding this matter right Lord Nobunaga? So please pardon me if I don't bring back as many casualties as the others..."

Lord Nobunaga sighed as he sliced the throat of a samurai before him.

"Why do I even put up with you? Oh wait I know. Because you are my talented pet monkey retainer that's why..." he asked and answered himself, earning a laugh from Lord Kenshin nearby.

"Ahh... I wish I was fighting by the side of the tiger himself but alas... I guess the Devil's Hand is just as good eh?"

Lord Nobunaga gave a grunt of irritation as his reply...

"Don't you think we're doing a lot of talking during fighting for skilled samurais?" Yoshichi panted as he fought off his enemies...

"Well look at it this way... At least we men can multi-task too..." Kagetsugu replied with a chuckle.

Lord Kenshin was about to give his input too when two shadows brushed past on each side of him...

"I'll show you Kageie! I'll kill more enemies than you this time!" Kanetsugu growled, cutting down five enemies in five seconds.

"You forgot about my bloodlust did you... Besides, I won against you for the last war! So why don't you just give up!" Kageie said with a smirk as he ruthlessly beheaded three samurais and stabbing another two within a few seconds...
