Sing To Me While I'm Dying

Chapter Twenty Seven

I convinced Lizzy to stay home while I was at physical therapy. Leo took me instead. When we got to the hospital Leo wheeled me in. We got into the office and the doctor came out to talk to me. He smiled at me and Leo.

"Anything interesting happen, you look very excited Vie."

"I can move my toes!" I say. I wiggle my toes and he gasps, looking surprised. He wheels me into his office, leaving Leo in the waiting room.

After about an hour of exercises the doctor wheels me back to where Leo is sitting.

"Vie, it looks like you will be able to walk again." He says smiling.

"How long? I ask.

"I don't know, but not too long." I can't help the smile that stretches across my face.

"I'm going to walk again!" I whisper.

"You are Vie!" Leo says. He wheels me out of the hospital. "Lets go home, I can't wait to see my mom's face when-"

"You can't tell her Leo."

"Why not? And why don't you tell your mother?"

"If I can't walk I don't want to get their hopes up!"

"Your being stupid, you will walk again."

"Maybe I will, but until then don't tell them." He sighs, but nods.

"Lets go home."

Once we were home I wheeled myself back into my room. I closed the door and decided to work on the exercises the doctor told me to do. After about half an hour my leg moved. I picked up my leg and set it down. I gasped and tears filled my eyes. I lifted my other leg.

Leo!" I yell. He comes running in, followed by Lizzy. I lift my leg and they both gasp.

"Vie!" Lizzy yells.

"I can move!"

"Your going to walk again!" Lizzy yelled.

I'm going to walk again!" I whisper. I close my eyes and tears fall down my face. For once, they are happy tears.
