Beep beep! Beep beep!

Ugh.

Monday morning. School.

Groaning, I rolled over, slapped my alarm clock and fell back into my duvet, my thoughts beginning to sleepily return to my brain. I heard a clang of a saucepan from outside my bedroom.

Heh?

The noise was followed by a badly sung version of ABBA's Dancing Queen. Mother. What was she still doing here? Surely she had work?

Oh yeah!  I breathed a huge sigh of relief as I realized it was a public holiday. Thank God for holidays. But then it hit me. The plan. Me, Blaze Boy and Quicksilver, against my father, ElectroNite.

Remind me why I signed up again?

Beginning to panic, I hopped out of bed and padded over to the my window, pulling back the curtains to check if Blaze Boy was already here. Nope. I needed to prepare. I constructed a plan of action in my head:

1. Have breakfast, tell Mom I have lots of homework to do today, so I'll be in my room all day. Act casual.

2. Get into my suit. Deep breaths, deep breaths.

3. Meet up with Blaze Boy and..ugh...Quicksilver. At least his annoying actions would distract me from my fear,

Death.

Anyway, I decided to get started with my morning. Opening my bedroom door, I was immediately confronted with a bouncy Rufus, who was thrilled to see me.

"Hey boy." I murmured, petting him and grabbing the toy from his mouth. I threw the toy down the corridor, and Rufus skidded towards it. I grinned and trotted to the kitchen, finding my mother dancing around with the radio blasting 80's music. She was wearing her baggy pyjama pants and a top that said 'Good Morning, Beautiful!', and her blonde hair was tied in a messy top bun. She didn't even notice me as I entered the kitchen, too distracted by her fried eggs and music. I cleared my throat, and she whizzed round.

"Good morning, Cassie!" She grinned, turning around to tend to her eggs. When Mom was in a good mood, I loved her dearly. "Want some eggs to start your day with?"

"Yes please." I replied, perching on a chair and watching as Rufus paraded around the kitchen with his toy in his mouth.

"I thought maybe we could go to a museum today! The San Fran Museum of Art has a new exhibition, I thought we could..."

"Sorry, Mom, I've got a lot of homework to do. I'm going to have to stay at home all day." I uttered, as my mother's shoulders drooped a little. She didn't show it, though.

"Oh..that's alright! Schoolwork counts!"

I felt sorry for my mother, but she didn't know what situation I was in. Save the world or go to a museum? Heh?

Mom piled two fried eggs on a plate and placed it in front of me, before rushing back to cook her own. Between mouthfuls, I tried to make conversation.

"Maybe we could go to a museum next weekend?" I suggested, munching on my egg.  My mother nodded and turned the radio down so she could hear me properly.

"Yes, that would be great, Cass."

Soon, I finished breakfast, but before I headed back into my room and commenced the rest of my plan of action for the morning, I surprised Mom by engulfing her in a hug. She yelped in surprise as I mushed my face into her pyjama shirt, thankful for her care and support. She was a great Mom, even if Brian got in the way.

"What up, Cass? I haven't received a hug like this from you for years!" She asked, looking down at me. I released my grip on her.

"Oh, nothing. I'll be in my room, but please don't disturb me now! Gotta study!" I called, walking towards my door. I left my mother in the kitchen with a confused expression on her face, with 80s music on the radio and slightly burnt eggs in a frying pan.

2. Get into my suit. Deep breaths, deep breaths.

Back in my locked room, I rummaged under my bed and grabbed my suit and shoes. As I changed, I began thinking through the fight ahead of us. There were three kids against one adult. Kids and adults. That's all it was. Deep breath. Nobody was gonna die. Nobody would even get badly injured. I fastened my mask over my face. Deep breath. This would be a walk in the park. In fact, the only thing I should be worried about is how annoying Quicksilver will be. Deep breath. I tied the laces of my shoes up, ready to go.

3. Meet up with Blaze Boy and..ugh...Quicksilver. At least his annoying actions would distract me from my fear,

Death.

Deep breath. Nobody was gonna die. Deep breath. Nobody would even get hurt. Deep breath.

Knock knock.

I was stirred from my thoughts and turned to the window, finding two boys in supersuits gazing in. My previous thoughts were still anxiously looming around my head, but I pushed them back, focused on the present. I galloped around my bed and unlatched the window, pushing it up and greeting the duo.

"Hey." I muttered, climbing out of the window to join them.

"Good morning, Miss C..Aqua Girl." Blaze Boy replied. I felt like kicking him, but I refrained. He almost named me infront of Quicksilver.

"Good morning, sunshine. You're looking particularly beau-"

"Stop it with the niceties, Quicksilver. You're not wooing me." I snapped, taking one last glance at my cosy bedroom before closing the window behind me. Quicksilver didn't try to fight back. I was tense. And when I was tense, I was sassy as heck.

"Well then, I reckon we should zoom around over the center of the city. We're bound to bump into ElectroNite at some point." Blaze Boy instructed, looking between Quicksilver and me. "Quickie, you take the streets, and Aqua Girl and I will take the sky. Any sightings of anything, grab our attention. Got it?"

"You betcha!" Quicksilver exclaimed, grinning. This was like a game for him. I wish I could aay the same about me.

"Yeah, let's get started. I feel like my window ledge is straining under our weight." I said, as Quicksilver disappeared.

"Hey! Down here!" I whizzed my head downwards to find him stood on the street, waving up at us.

"Show-off!" I shouted, causing Blaze Boy to snigger beside me.

Maybe the fight wouldn't be so bad, after all.
