I'm outside of Headquarters with Levi by his request. He sent my squadmates to prepare for the Expedition tomorrow by fixing their weapons, purchasing new gas, and trading in damaged gear while we went "shopping". 'Levi said we were running out of cleaning supplies.
"How does the Survey Corps even have the budget to purchase useless stuff like this?" I ask, walking down a long, cracked sidewalk next to Levi. We both wore normal clothes. I a rose pink dress with frills at the bottom, and Levi, his same white, button down shirt he always wore with black cargo pants. Even though we're in the scouting regiment, doesn't mean we have to wear our uniforms constantly.
"Ah, we don't have the budget. We're spending so much on weapons, gear, and horses that we don't even have enough to suit our sanitary desires." Levi answers. He never looked straight ahead. He would always observe his surroundings, looking at the citizens and sometimes gawking at merchants.
"Then why are we shopping for those now? Shouldn't we be preparing, Levi?" I ask, looking at him quietly get excited over a horse laying down on a patch of hay. You would never expect Captain Levi Ackerman to be so fond of horses. One time, I caught him talking to his about how dumb the Scouts are, and occasionally giving the horse apples.
"Well, I've the money, so I thought I would purchase them for HQ." He answers as we turn a corner.
I let out a hum in a confused manner. "Since when did we receive payment for helping humanity?"
"You don't get paid because you aren't of a high rank. I get paid though. Quite a lot in fact. It's only like that because we don't have enough money to pay everyone. Especially when they may die anytime. Easier to just keep the money for ourselves. I've been trying to save my money, however." Levi answers, tugging hard on my waist, pulling me close to him.
He was actually a lot more affectionate when alone with me. Not really alone considering we're around a lot of citizens who know good and well that he's the 'Captain Levi Ackerman! As strong as the entire brigade!', but he usually ignored it.
Women would shoot him peeks and men would stare hard. Children would sometimes run up to us and hug him tightly by the waist until he pried them off."Why have you been saving it?" I ask, leaning down to offer a little girl a hug. Some of the children even randomly praised me.
"Whenever the titans die off, I want to start my own tea shop, build a home somewhere away from the city, and preferably, raise my own family." He answers, ruffling my hair as we continue to walk down the busy sidewalk hand in hand. "I'm not so sure on the family part, but it would be nice."
I smile at the thought of Levi trying to raise children. To even have them you have to do the deed, and I'm pretty sure Levi would never do anything like that. Even if, Levi doesn't seem like the type of man who has very high patience and tolerance for children.
"You think you'd be a good father?" I ask, nudging him as we finally enter the store that sold mainly cleaning supplies.
"It can't be that difficult. I teach my kids what's right and what's wrong, and I protect them from harmful things. What else is there to it?" He asks as he nears a broom. Levi's mother died from illness when he was still so young, and the only father figure he's had in his life was his uncle, but that Ackerman left out of the blue. He would need a lot of lessons on parenting when the day came.
I shake my head and disperse from him. I went back outside as he took his precious time shopping.
A female citizen bumps into me as soon as I step out of the door, and she falls to the ground.
