The world is filled with seven billion people.

Some of them wanted to die.

Some of them wanted to live.

Some of them just wanted to disappear.

Within those seven billion people, a boy, whose story had been an achingly human one- mired
in quotidian details, looked up at the stars and asked for his existence to be erased.

Maybe - just maybe -

His wish was heard.

Komaeda Nagito woke up the next day to the sound of his alarm clock.

As he blearily opened his eyes, he found himself in an unfamiliar room. Whatever somnolence that was left in him dispersed within nothing slower than an instant. Upon further inspection, it was his room. Yet, at the same time, it wasn't.

The bed, the desk, the closet... all the furniture wasn't his.

All traces of him was... gone.

The only thing that remained the same was the view outside the room.
Bewildered, he walked to the door, intent on finding out the truth behind the strange change.
He reached his hand out to grasp the door handle, only for his hand to pass through it entirely.
It left him speechless, the only thing he could do was stare at his hand, and the door, then back again.

"Nagito! Please turn off your alarm clock next time if you wake up earlier."

A voice he recognised to belong to his mother, the very same mother who was never home; never with him; called out. While it was his name, it wasn't. The unfamiliar affection, proudness, associated with it made him doubt himself.  He wasn't sure what even was his anymore. Not his room, not his mother, not his name.

"Oh yeah, sorry."

Another voice, absurdly similar to his own, but not quite the same. There was something that set their voices apart, but he couldn't quite place a finger on it. This voice, the most familiar one, was yet, the most foreign of all, it had replied to his mother with a reserved laugh. It definitely wasn't his father's, he thought. He didn't have any siblings, either.
In the midst of his trying to figure everything out, the door to his bedroom opened, and he was face to face with another boy. That other boy simply passed through him, and placed a hand on the alarm clock, and the ringing ceased.

His face was familiar, but Komaeda was certain they had never met before. Much like himself, the other boy had hair the colour of clouds, eyes a mix of dull green and grey, a jawline that wasn't too sharp, nor too chubby either, a sculptured nose, fanciable sharp eyes; all which were quite above average, attractive facial features in which him and his family shared.

But something about the other male had a stark contrast to that of his own. And as he turned to walk out the open door, Komaeda saw it-

-It was his lips, more specifically, how the ends curled up ever so genuinely.

This other boy had the ability to smile, to hope, like everyone else did.

A bitter laugh.

But he couldn't say he didn't ask for it. He, quite literally, did.

'Life is sick.' He thought. It was as sick as it was ironic.

From watching who he was supposed to be, he saw who he hadn't become, who he should have become. From watching the family, his family, before him, he came to realize what he could have been doing with his life- what he should have been doing with his life.

And if he was anything, Komaeda was sure, that he was not an idiot. He never was.

The unfamiliar room, but it was still his, the unfamiliar voice, but it was still his, the unfamiliar face, but it was still his.

The unfamiliar smile, and like the previous unfamiliar things, that too, was his all the same.
In addition to the passing through of objects, of people, the invisibility, it didn't take a genius to infer what was currently going on.

The Komaeda Nagito he was, had never existed. In his stead, was the Komaeda Nagito he was supposed to have been.
