Chapter 9

Ariel

"Wake up, Ariel!" Caelum said, out loud, meaning he wasn't in dragon form anymore.

Why are people always waking me up? I need sleep. Sleep is life.

"What the fuck do you want?" I mumbled, sleepily. I must have fallen asleep on the ride to New York City. It was a far one, after all. The Centaur Palace is in India which is seven hours away from NYC if you're riding on a really big dragon.

"Just open your eyes."

"This better be good." I said, before opening my eyes.

The first thing I saw was the night sky. I could see lights from my peripheral vision. My body was on something very cold while my head was on something rumply which I assumed was one of my bags.

"Stand up!" Caelum urged, before helping me stand up.

The air was sucked out of my lungs. I knew the New York City skyline was pretty during the night but it doesn't look this amazing from heaven. From heaven it just looks like a bunch of colorful sticks pointing at you. But from the side. . .

There's no words to describe how gorgeous it is.

"It's beautiful." I murmured, awe struck.

"Yeah, you are." Caelum whispered, looking at me.

But I didn't hear right. I couldn't have. He's gay. Why would he say that? Actually on second thought, even if you're not sexually attracted to someone you can still compliment them in a non romantic way. Maybe he's saying it in a friend way.

 I looked around, confused.

"Where are we?" I asked, realizing we were way higher then the buildings surrounding us. There was a very bright, seven foot tall stick behind me.

Are we on the- "The Empire State Building." he answered, completing my thoughts perfectly. Did he time that? I know he can read my thoughts but to what extent? Can he read my feelings? Just thoughts? What about my subconscious.

"I might have." he said, smiling. Butterflies went crazy inside my stomach and my heart rate picked up just because he smiled.

He's fucking gay Ariel! Get a grip! I reminded myself.

I notice how Caelum's smile faltered when I thought that. Oh God, he probably knows I like him and thinks I'm some freak!

"Wow. What are we doing here?" I wondered, pretending I wasn't embarrassed.

"The portal to the wizard world is right behind you." He replied.

I turned around to face the tall stick. It wasn't really a stick, more like a rectangle.

"So this is what it looks like." I said, looking it up and down.

"Now it's time for you to try and conceal your aura, mistress." he said. I noted he only called me master or mistress when it was time for serious business. Mistress sounded so dirty, and my mind went a little wild when he said that.

"What should I do?" I asked, completely lost.

"Do you have any books or something? I'm sure Daniel gave you some."

"I threw them away." I said, the tiniest bit regretful.

He sighed, "Okay well close your eyes and try to focus on the air around you, and maybe pull it in or something."
