The holidays breeze by as Jo, Ellen, and I head back on the road. Travelling across the country, cooped up in a vehicle for hours at a time, feels like the never-ending cycle of my life. But if I get to make a difference and spend it with the two women I love, then it's totally worth it. Ellen sits beside me in the passenger seat, flipping through some papers related to our current hunt. Jo resides in the back, her headphones in as she stares out the window.

I coerced Ellen into letting me drive, to give her a well-deserved break. After a long stare down, followed by a heavy sigh, she caved in. In all honesty, I just wanted an excuse to be unable to do anything else besides drive. For the past few weeks, my phone has been burning a hole in my pocket. I've been worried about any call from the brothers, knowing some kind of awkwardness regarding Christmas will follow soon after. Ellen and Jo don't know about my little drop-off, but if they did, they would definitely start questioning me as to why I'm always jumping at the opportunity to keep myself busy.

A phone rings and my heart nearly leaps out of my chest, chills running all over my skin. Ellen looks over at me, her phone in her hand.

"You all right?"

I nod, gripping the steering wheel as my eyes stay on the road.  She takes a moment, watching me, before she answers it. "Hey, Bobby."

Glancing in the rear-view mirror, I take note that Jo hasn't moved -- thankful that she didn't pick up on anything. From the phone snafu in Indiana, she wouldn't hesitate getting on my case about Sam.

"Well, from the multiple reports of missing persons and one case of a woman drained of her own blood, I'd say we could have several different things, here."  Ellen folds up a newspaper, stashing it by her feet.

The location signs seem to blur together, the mile numbers counting down until we reach our destination. For some reason, it leaves a heavy pit in my stomach – time fading away. The sickening feeling rises into my chest, bubbling up to my brain, and then it hits me.

Dean.

The months are strolling by and it frightens me to think that his days left are limited. I can't imagine the fear that is taking over his mind, stripping him of peace. And Sam – what is this doing to him? Where will his older brother's death leave him? My heart continues to chip away.

"Yes, Bobby. I'm not Rufus," Ellen scoffs, shaking her head. "Did you forget that I've got the smartest girls in the world with me?"

She glances over at me and gives my leg a loving squeeze. "We'll be fine. Call you later," Ellen hangs up, placing the phone in her lap.

We arrive at the town soon after that, checking in to a motel, and then plan out our next move. According to the reports, the missing people disappeared around the same location. Deciding to take that as our lead, we stock up on all equipment and load it back into the car. Rolling up to a quiet apartment building, we exit the vehicle with caution. Most of the windows are busted and boarded up, the neighborhood not leaving much to be hopeful for. After exchanging silent nods, we arm ourselves and slowly enter the complex. In order to cover the most ground, Ellen motions that she will check upstairs. Jo starts walking towards an open room, but I stop her, holding her arm back. Not wanting her to get caught up by the monster like last time, I usher her towards her mother. She gives me a look of aggravation and I raise my eyebrow in response. Contemplating the notion, Jo bites the inside of her cheek and sighs. I nod for her to catch up with Ellen before I begin to investigate the lower level.
