Chapter Ten

LAUREN'S P.O.V.

I began to spend more and more time with Caleb. We had our project to work on, plus his mom, Kristi, was taking me to appointments because my parents still didn't know. I developed a crush on Caleb. One day I decided to confront him about my feelings.

"Caleb, can we talk?" I asked timidly.

He grinned. "Aren't we already talking?"

"Ha ha. Very funny, Mr. Wise Guy. I'm being serious. We've been spending a lot of time together and I've started to really like you. I was wondering if maybe sometime you'd like to go out."

Caleb burst out laughing. "What's so funny?" I asked.

He shook his head. "I can't believe you don't know. How do you not know? It's so obvious."

I was so confused. "What are you talking about? Please explain to me what's going on."

Caleb suddenly became very serious. "Honey, I'm gay." Now it was my turn to burst out laughing. When he didn't join in, I knew he was serious.

"Wait. What? Gay? Not that I have anything against gays or anything, just-"

"I have a boyfriend, Lauren. Everyone thinks Trent and I are just really good friends but we're dating. We have been for over a year."

"There's no way! You're the straightest guy I know!" I exclaimed. If he was gay, then we couldn't date. But I really liked him. "I refuse to let you be gay. You have to be straight so we can go out,"

Caleb shook his head again. "I'm afraid it doesn't work like that. I am who I am. You can't just change that because you want a boyfriend."

Why did all the cute ones have to be gay? I thought to myself.

"You can't be gay," I said. Or could he?
