{Aurora's POV}
"Uh... is this legal?" I asked Jackson as we entered the house looking around. The past few days we have been gathering some things on Maverick and Isabella's case. Im still convinced he's been abusing her. Even neighbors says they would hear yelling constantly. One even said they saw Isabella leaving the house in a hurry holding her arm. Why they never told anyone...we'll never know.
"Im the alpha... of course it is." He replied.
"Where is Maverick at?" I questioned as he picked up their mail.
"Okay, is that necessary?" I added hearing him chuckle.
"Nope, but he's in debt." He replied tossing the bills aside. "And as an answer to your question, I sent him with some people from pack police to look for Isabella." He said as I followed him throughout their house.
"Why would you do that? We're trying to keep him from her." I countered and he let out a humored laugh.
"My pack police suck. They'll get nowhere. I should probably work on that." He laughed to himself and continued walking, but stopped abruptly; all humor gone.
"Do you smell that?" He asked.
I took a moment and sure enough the metallic stench entered my senses.
"That's blood." I said and he walked over to a door opening it.
He sighed and pointed to something as I peered around him seeing bandages and more medical supplies.
"Why would there be bandages out? He only had a small scratch." I mumbled.
"Because it's not his. A female wolf's blood has a distinct smell. This isn't his... it's Isabella's, and by the looks of it... she was here recently."
"I thought he said she's been gone for a few."
"Me too." He mumbled and walked out of the bathroom and down another hall.
"Would you look at that." He said and there was a hole in the wall that had dried blood on it.
"Maybe he pushed her?" I asked and he nodded.
"Looks like it. But I don't want to assume too much yet. That's how people fail cases."
"Okay...Im going to look in the kitchen. You take the back rooms." I said and he nodded.
As I walked into the kitchen there was tons of alcohol bottles everywhere. Ibuprofen—which was altered for us wolves—was spread across one counter top as blood was also on the counter.
Maybe his alcohol was the problem? Or maybe she had one too?
"What the hell happened." I mumbled to myself.
I walked to the sink and quickly covered my mouth as I saw a bloody knife.
"Jackson!" I called out.
I heard his footsteps and he came into view looking bothered.
"What?" I asked at the same time he did.
I pointed to the knife as he held up a broken lock.
"The bastard was keeping her locked up. She came back after the fight, but it didn't end well in her favor." He said glancing to the knife.
"How do you know she was being locked up?" I asked and he stepped aside revealing a girl with short blonde hair making me take a step backwards.
She was holding her bleeding side and blood was dripping down her head. Sweat coated her forehead as she looked to be in and out of it.
