Chapter Three
*"This is Soomi." Yuna informs me, pointing to the tall, thin and beautiful girl sat on the table of the bench with a smile on her face. Her hair is a silky brown, eyes matching flawlessly like the rest of her being.
*"Nice to meet you and welcome to the school!" She cheers, hitting the back of a brown-haired boy's head as he laughs at her greeting; I muffle a giggle at that.
*"You too and thank you!"
*"This is Joon." Yuna resumes, rolling her eyes at the clearly overconfident boy that remains leaned back with his leg propped up on his knee. He almost looks like he's trying to mimic the guys on TV that think they're sexy but in reality are making themselves look like fools.
*"That is me." He breathes in, a smirk in the following when he stands up, his tall and muscular frame becoming more evident as he towers over me. His hand sticks out, palm facing my direction as if an invite. I shake it hesitantly, raising an eyebrow at the same time. "You're very pretty."
*"That's a shame you're not." Yuna snaps, pushing him away from my direction, a laugh in response from everyone but a very disappointed frown from Joon. "And this is Tae." I look towards the quiet boy, huddling towards the ends of the bench, almost as if he's cowering away. It's plain to see that he's shy, especially when he barely looks up at me but mumbles a short hello instead. "And now you've met this crazy group, I'll continue to show you around?" I nod and both Yuna and I leave the table and return to the building.
"You're later than I expected you to be." My mum states as I walk into the kitchen just as I entered the house after the uneventful yet chaotic day.
"I hung out with my new friend for a while." I smile, it is more of an excitable grin than I expected. Honestly, I assumed I'd be the kid that never made friends and ended up being left out in a corner with just my headphones and a book to keep me company. However, somehow, I've made four new friends. I'm proud, for not only pushing myself out of my comfort zone but for not making myself look like a fool in front of them today! Even though I'm quite confident in the way I speak Korean, messing up with my vocabulary can occasionally become a regular occurrence but I did it.
"You made a friend already!" My mum gawks, spinning around to me with a grin possibly wider than mine as she jogs over to my side and hugging me perhaps too tightly.
"How about four?" I jump, joining in on the excitement.
"I'm so proud of you!" She smiles, a small tear cascading down her blushed cheek. "You're becoming such a wonderful person and I couldn't be more happy to call you my daughter."
"I love you mum, but talk like that is a no." I chuckle, tapping her shoulder.
"I know you don't like it but it's true."
"Do I smell chicken?" My dad asks, disrupting our moment as he comes in from the door, a small kerfuffle as he places all of his things down. Eventually, he makes it into the kitchen after his unorganised ways.
"Hello to you too." My mum sighs, giggling as she gets back to cooking. "How was your day?"
"Great, actually." He mumbles but his face says otherwise, I'm not entirely convinced he's telling the truth.
"You're lying, aren't you?" My mum turns at this, watching me stare at the shocked expression fall on his face but once he notices the attention brought upon him, it transforms into a painted smile that proves nothing.
"Why would I lie?"
"Dad, you're always trying to impress, of course you'd lie," I mumble, sighing.
"How about you go upstairs and do your homework?" My mum asks hopefully, walking over slowly and cautiously whilst she clearly senses the awkward tension in the room.
"I don't have any homework..."
"Just go to your room until I call you down?" She insists, I grumble, sulking up the stairs and pulling out my phone. I had gotten the numbers of Yuna, Soomi, Joon and Tae today as they added me to their group chat which I kind of felt uncomfortable joining but did it anyway to be polite. It's full of nonsense but the kind to make me stifle a giggle every now and then.
JOON
*New girl is hot.
YUNA
*You remember I added her to the group chat, right?
SOOMI
*Yes, Joon, she is hot.
SOOMI
*But way too hot for you.
I sigh, watching the messages continue to flood in about how idiotic and stuck up Joon is, Soomi absolutely obliterating him.
"Y/N!" My mum calls from the bottom of the stairs, I hop up and throw my phone down onto the bed before bouncing down the stairs and taking a seat at the dining table where everyone sits awkwardly.
"About earlier," my dad clears his throat. "It was simply a bad day but I didn't want to worry either of you."
"That's okay," I smile. "Just don't lie."
"Who's the parent here?" My dad chuckles. After this, we all sit silently again, only the sound of our cutlery bashing against the plate and the slight murmur of chewing echoing around the room. "Hey, Y/N?" My dad begins.
"Mhm?"
"Would you like to come to a dinner with me tomorrow?"
"Sure, but where and with who?"
"When I studied here I made a friend and we decided we'd go out to eat. His son is joining us, so, I thought it would be nice if you joined too?"
"Of course." I smile, unsure how to feel about it; as everyone knows, my people skills are absolutely awful, which means this dinner could either go terribly or amazing.
Not my best chapter but either way, I hope you enjoyed it! I wonder who this mysterious son may be? ;)
