Yep, that's a stranger things reference

"Have you found a date to the Snow Ball yet?" Teddy asked.

Y/N shrugged, "Luke asked me."

"What'd you say?" He set his fork down, putting all his focus into the conversation.

"I said I'd think about it, but knowing the boys in our year, he's probably already asked some other girl," she sighed. "How about you? Have you asked any lucky ladies yet?"

He laughed, "no."

"Any you're thinking of asking?"

"Yeah, but I think she has a date already."

"Oh, that's a shame. Maybe her date will bail and you can simply swoop in like a night in shining armor," she offered.

"Maybe."

"Meet in the library after I help with tutoring?" She asked.

"'Course," he smiled.

Y/N leaned over the table. "And you do..." she scribbled some notes in the margins of his paper. "This... and then you should get... this."

"Ohhh," the little boy said. "That makes so much more sense!"

"Are you good for today?"

"Yep! Thanks, Y/N!"

"Tell me how you do on that exam next week."

The boy nodded and gathered up his things. He gave her one last enthusiastic wave before leaving the library.

"I knew I'd find you here, Y/N," The Hufflepuff girl looked up to find a beaming Luke. "Have you made up your mind?"

"You haven't asked anyone else yet?"

"Of course not."

"Oh, well, thank you for giving me some time. I'd love to go with you," the E/C eye colored girl said.

"I'll see you there," he winked and left.

She turned as Teddy sat down next to her. He propped his elbows on the table and looked at her with a slight smile.

"What'd you say?" He asked, referring to Luke.

"I said yes," she grinned. "What'd your lucky lady say?"

"Oh... I didn't ask her. Turned out she already had a date."

"I'm sorry. Hey," she lightly punched him in the arm. "This whole Snow Ball thing is stupid anyways. I don't even know how dance."

"Says the one with the date, you uncultured chicken nugget," he retorted.

Y/N gasped dramatically and put a hand over her heart. "Alright, you spork, you're officially going shopping with me."

~

"Thanks for going shopping with me," Y/N grinned.

"Uh," he crossed his arms over his chest as he followed her around racks of dresses. "You dragged me here."

She picked up a orange dress. "How about this?"

"Nah, it doesn't seem like you," he picked up a red tight-fitting dress. "This?" He joked.

"Noooo," she protested.

They spent countless minutes walking up and down the racks, looking for a decent dress. Y/N was actually looking for a gown while Teddy was trailing behind her suggesting dresses fit for three year olds or for 30 year olds.

"You're no help at all!"

"What do you mean? I've suggested a ton of dresses," he shrugged.

She rolled her eyes and dragged the pile dresses around her arm into a dressing room. It took a little over an hour to pick a dress, but eventually Y/N picked a (whatever dress you'd like).

"This is really expensive," the Hufflepuff commented. As she started to pay the cashier.

"Extremely," she agreed. "And I'm only going to wear it once."

"Geez."

"Yep," she said. "So, Teddy, have you picked out a suit yet?"

He shrugged, "Yeah. It's just black and white."

"Ooh, classy. Tie or bow tie?" She inquired as they left the store. "What color hair are you doing?"

"Tie," he thought for a moment. "And maybe a light blue."

"Cute," Y/N mused.

The girl had been sitting on the chairs hugging the walls all night. She'd spent most of the night around the snack table and venturing around the room looking for him.

Music was being played too loudly and the dance floor was changing vibrant colors. Snowflake decorations was charmed to stay floating in the air and fairy lights were strung around the room. The decorations itself looked beautiful, but all the people jumping up and down and talking loudly made everything a bit overwhelming.

"Stop looking at me like that," Y/N said. "Luke's coming... he's just late."

"It's been almost an hour."

"He's probably sick or something. Besides, there's still an hour and a half left," she tried to convince herself.

Teddy read her like a book and decided it wouldn't benefit either of them to bring it up again the rest of the night. He felt his insides twist. She shouldn't be waiting for some lousy guy that probably isn't even going to come. She doesn't deserve that.

"Go find someone to dance with," She nudged him. "There's plenty of wallflowers for you to dance with."

"I don't want just any flower," he shrugged. "I think I want a rose."

Y/N rolled her eyes, "I don't like roses. They're too cliché. I like hydrangeas— they're fluffy."

He felt his cheeks heat up as she completely looked over his metaphor. Y/N, on the other hand, was busy bouncing her leg up and down, not being able to stop. It's okay... he's just late, she told herself.

Another hour passed and Teddy walked with her as she made another round to the snacks and around the dance floor just incase she'd missed him coming in.

"There's only half an hour left," he frowned. "C'mon, I'm not letting you spend the rest of your night waiting for some douchebag."

She wanted to protest that Luke was actually a nice guy, but it looked like he was turning out to be a jerk.

The Hufflepuff boy stood up and held his hand out to her. "Shall we dance? It's a slow song."

She laughed quietly, "Sure. Whatever."

Y/N took his hand and let him drag her onto the dance floor. He put his hands on her waist and she put her arms around his neck. At first it was a little awkward, but quickly they relaxed.

"Thank you."

"Of course. Screw all those guys."

"Yeah, all except one though."

He rolled his eyes, "If you say Luke, I'm going to walk out of this room and spontaneously explode."

"Oh gods no," she laughed. "I was talking about you, you spork. I think like you."

He felt his heart stop and he broke out into a smile. "I'm glad the feeling's mutual, chicken nugget. I think I like you too."
