"Great job today girls head to the locker rooms and grab a shower" Coach Curtis instructs as us girls jog away from the field. We just had a two hour practice and I swear my legs are about to give out and my heart is racing a million miles.

While in the shower I wash my hair and I hear everyone talking about Vanessa's party this weekend. As I rinse out the curtain over the shower rips open and I instantly shout.

"What the hell" I shout as I see Jade and Queen standing in front of me. I struggle to hide my naked body but it's not working. They stare at me impatiently and I stare at them annoyed, "Yes?" I question nastily.

Jade huffs, "Are you coming to Vanessa's party or what it's this weekend?" She asks while folding her arms and I note that they're both showered and dressed. Must be nice.

"And this was so important that you had to interrupt my shower?" I ask.

Queen huffs, "Well you've been ignoring us and avoiding the question so no shower time for you" She replies and I groan.

"Guys I told you I don't want to go, I'm pretty sure those exact words came out my mouth" I remind them and Queen pouts.

"Come on it's going to be fun, you don't even have to see Vanessa or Mikey"

I roll my eyes, "It's her birthday" I remind them and again they begin complaining how I'm not being any fun and how this is my last year and I should enjoy it. Being to feel frustrated I put my hands up telling them to shut up.

"Alright!" I say and they become quiet. They stare at me hopeful and I sigh, "I'll go but only if you get out!" I seethe while shooing them away. They both squeal, "This is going to be so much fun meet you out in the car!" Queen says and they finally leave.

Breathing in and out for strength I finish showering and go to get dressed. While stuffing my clothes in my bag I see a pair of vans stepping to me. I look up to Vanessa smiling down on me. It's not a smile smile but a shady smile like she's planning something.

"Hey Kendra" She greets and I slowly close my locker.

"Vanessa, what's up?" I ask and tells me that she heard I was coming to her party. That's funny because I only agreed like twenty minutes ago.

"I guess so, but believe me I'm only staying for an hour" I tell her and she tilts her head. She asks why and I tell her because I don't plan on staying out all night.

She laughs but I don't, in fact, I don't see the joke.

"What's funny Vanessa?" I question and she says nothing.

"Why won't you stay longer, Cole will be there" She mentions and I don't see how Cole being there has anything to do with me.

She laughs again, "Come on Kendra, it's no secret that you and Cole like each other" She tries it and now it's my turn to laugh.

"Me? Like Cole? Just because you've got yourself a lil pale skin boyfriend doesn't mean I will" I say while standing up and she scoffs.

"Kendra, you are such a terrible liar, we all know Cole has a thing for you and we all know you have a thing for him" Again, she tried it.

"You're wrong"

She puts her hands together, "We'll see" She stares at me as if she knows something that I don't and I tell her that I don't have time for this.

I pull my bag over my shoulder and push past her and out of the corner of my eye I see her smirking as if me pushing her somehow proves something, well it doesn't.

I don't like Cole.

Before I can get out the door I hear her call to me. I turn around to see her smiling, "See you this weekend" She says while waving good-bye and I turn back around and leave the locker room.

^.^.^

I pull my coat closer to myself as the wind nearly knocks me over. I hate that it's after December and it's still brick out here. As I make my way to my car I see a huge crowd by where I parked. Unfortunately, the only spot left was next to Lincoln so that explains why they're all crowded together.

I walk up and stand next to David whose sitting on the hood of my car. Next to him are Andre and Darnell and Jade whose standing in front of Andre. Next to me are Cole and Anderson whose leaning against the car doors. Lincoln and Frankie are sitting on the hood of his car and Rowan and Queen are on the other side by themselves.

"Yo" I greet and my friends greet me back.

I listen to Darnell and Andre go back and forth about something stupid when I hear the clicking of a lighter. I turn to see Cole putting a cigarette in his mouth and Anderson lighting it up from him.

He actually smokes?

Of course, he does. Memories of that day I found him in the parking lot smoking with someone else come back to me and deep down that makes me feel some type of way. Not him smoking but smoking in general.

Cole inhales a couple times and through his lips lets out some smoke. He looks at me, "Why your face like that?" He questions and I realize I must be staring hard at him.

"That's gross" I snarl and Cole inhales to exhale. He blows the smoke right in my face and I begin flailing my hands.

"Cole" I growl and he smiles.

"Oops" He plays and I wave my hands to get rid of that smell.

"Smoking is a silent killer you know" I inform him and he takes the cigarette out of his mouth.

"Everything can kill you" He informs me back and I roll my eyes.

He clears his throat handing it to Anderson who takes it in his mouth, "So what are the moves for this weekend?" He asks while blowing out a ring of smoke. Lincoln leans over tapping on his car, "We got a party bro remember?" He reminds and I look at all of them.

They're going to Vanessa's party?

Great!

"You gonna be there?" Cole asks while looking at me and I fold my arms.

"It would seem so" I answer and Cole nods his head.

"Never thought you'd actually go, considering you and Vanessa don't fuck with each other"

"Well it would seem there are people that want me to go"

Cole turns to take the cigarette back and I roll my face up at the constant back and forth. "That's disgusting Sterling, how many germs have you just contracted?" I question and he pretends to think.

"Not enough to care" He answers and I scoff unbelievably.

He laughs, "Fix your face baby girl, people might start to think you actually care about what happens to me," He says while letting out a ring of smoke.

My jaw drops, me? Care about him?

"Believe me Sterling I don't"

He makes a mhmm sound as if he doesn't quite believe that, "Believe me Lyon, you do"

"I don't"

"But I think you do, in fact, I think you care a lot about what happens to me"

The more I go back and forth the more I feel frustrated by this. What Vanessa comes back to me but I know she can't be right. I've put too much energy into hating him just to turn around and like him. Nah!

Vanessa is wrong.

I know she is.
