Shane had been replaced by the cold night air.

Unlike Shane's companionship, the rain brought Cleo no sense of comfort. Unlike the intimate contact she had previously encountered, her kiss from the raindrops left her cold and unfeeling. The Wind's arms did not feel as safe has his had. Although not as comforting she found herself admitting that the features of nature that surrounded her were indeed far more reliable than the boy who was lost in his head. For, they were guaranteed to last.

Cleo tripped up once on the pavement, shivering as she made her way to the bus stop. Yet somehow, the distinct memory of a boy surrounded by ice warmed her from the inside out. A memory, she realized, was an incredibly valuable thing. Despite its ability to fade as fast as it was made, for the time it was there a single memory could have the largest impact. A recollection could make or break a person in the time of a hasty decision. A memory could sketch a smile upon a skeleton's face. A memory could water the eyes of the angels.

A memory could warm a shivering girl from the inside out.
