To me, posting a new story on Wattpad is just half the experience. The other half comes from what happens next: the engagement. Every story chapter is like a new virtual place where people can meet up and simply chat. I find that a good portion of the comments on my stories don't relate to the original story they are posted in at all, but rather are from random conversations I start with my readers who soon become my friends as well.

To all the new Wattpaders out there, my piece of advice is to make the most out of the comments section. And I'm not just talking about the comments on your own stories, but for other people's stories as well. Chances are, you're not going to get a lot of readers from the very beginning. So, learn to reach out to others first. Vote and comment on their works. Make yourself known to the author. Start a conversation.

As I like to tell myself, "Go in with the mindset to attract potential friends, not potential readers." That's because friends are the ones who will truly stick around for more than just the first sentence of your story; they'll be there until the very last word of your very last chapter
