KENZIE'S POINT OF VIEW
•••

i woke up without my alarm, and turned over to see maisy's sleeping face. i grinned, happy to be reunited with her.

tiptoeing around my room, so i wouldn't wake her up, i got changed into sweats and a t-shirt, struggling slightly because of my cast, before heading downstairs.

maddie was downstairs, eating her breakfast, since she still had to go to school. "morning." i smiled around. "hello, kenzie." my parents replied in sync, shooting each other nervous glances.

"well, i'm gonna skrrt, so you you guys after school." maddie said, giving us all hugs. i noticed her shoot my parents a pointed glance before finally leaving.

i didn't think much of it as i listen to my parents talk about work. both of them were still working on spending time with me, and had been coming home early every day.

i eventually got bored of their conversation, and went back upstairs to wake up maisy. i shook her awake, and she groggily opened her eyes.

"morning." she yawned, rubbing her eyes. "what do you mean morning! it's already 11:47!" i exclaimed, laughing on the inside at my oh so hilarious joke.

"no way. shit! my mom is gonna kill me! she expected me home half an hour ago!" maisy squealed, jumping out of bed.

i didn't bother letting maisy know the real time as she scrambled around, stuffing her clothes in her bag. once she was done, i lazily grinned, and said, "oh by the way, it's 8:30."

maisy opened and closed her mouth in confusion, before glaring at me. "kenzieeee!" she groaned in annoyance, while i chuckled.

"bye mais. it was great seeing you again." i said, hugging her goodbye. "bye mrs. stella!" i waved to her mom as maisy entered the car.

we had managed to convince her mom to let her stay till three, and finally it was time for her to leave.

thankfully i wouldn't be bored for too long since annie and lauren would be here once school ended. i went to the living room and watched an episode of riverdale, and just as it ended, the doorbell rang.

i rushed downstairs, and opened it to see lauren and annie. they pulled me into a hug, acting as if they hadn't seen me in years.
finally they let go, and i was gasping for air, causing them to chuckle.

"okay now what happened yesterday?" "why did you leave?" "did someone say something to you?" "were you mad at us?" the moment we reached my room, they instantly began bombarding me with questions.

"guys! chill. i didn't leave for any of those reasons." i let out a light chuckle. "then why did you?" annie asked me. "i really don't know," i honestly told them.

"huh?" they both face me blank looks. i repeated everything i had told maisy, about the picture, and both of them told me the same thing she had.

"kenz. you obviously like johnny." annie rolled her eyes. "i'm not sure." i mumbled. "does this made you mad?" lauren asked me, showing me a picture of her and carson.

i shook my head.

"and this?" she presented a picture of maddie and jack to me. i shook my head yet again.

"and..." she handed me her phone. "this." i saw the picture of johnny and the girl. inside, my emotions bubbled, but i wasn't sure why. "i-i don't know." i have a half nod.

when i looked up, both of them were smirking. i glared at them, and at that very moment, the doorbell rang. saved by the bell.

i assumed that was my parents, and so the three of us went donwstairs, passing maddie, who was watching tv. "hi. bye." lauren and annie said in sync, causing us all to begin laughing.

i let my parents in, and waved my friends off, thankful that our precious conversation hadn't been completed.

"hey kenzie. be a darling and get your sister into the lounge. it's time for a family meeting." my mom said, giving me a hug. i nodded and ran to fetch maddie.

soon, both maddie and i were seated opposite our parents. "okay..so girls. i need you to listen to this with an open mind, and i know this may come as a shock to you, but we have no choice," my dad began.

i simply nodded, feeling a flutter in my stomach. "don't make this hard on us, but.." my mom tentatively began.

"jesus! can y'all just spit it out. this is just making me even more nervous!" i blurt out.

"exactly. we'll overreact even more otherwise." maddie added, suportingly. and with that, my dad nervously told us.

"you can't be serious!" i screamed, while maddie just casually shrugged. my parents nodded, sighing.

i shot maddie a glare, mad that she wasn't as upset about the situation. "i'll be in my room." i huffed out, but stayed long enough to see my parents exchange looks of despair.
