"Why do we always have to run?" Holly soft juvenile voice asks me. She is twisting a small flower in her hand. She looks up at me, her face so innocent. I wipe my hand across my sweaty forehead. I look up at the sun.
"There are bad people hunting us." I say kneeling next to her. Her small body is nearly hidden by the tall grasses she sits in.
"Why are they hunting us, have we done something bad?" She asks her eyes widening.
"No, they have." I say standing up. I hold out my hand. "I have to get water, will you come with me?" I ask smiling. She takes my hand and pulls her tiny body up. She walks next to me and we search to find water. The peace and tranquility is soon broke my by the sound of howling wolves.

I open my eyes taking a deep breath. Every peaceful memory I have is ruined by the fear. Soon after we heard the howling ten wolves ran into the forest. I sit up, closing my eyes. I can still hear Holly's scream.

The wolves crash through the tree line, crouching in a fighting stance. Once shifts and walks over to us. He is tall, much taller than my twelve year old body. I push Holly behind me and stand tax tall as I can.
"What are you doing here?" He asks looking down at us with curiosity.
"I don't have to answer to you." I say my anger flaring. I still haven't learned to control Megaera. He raises his eyebrow.
"I know you know what we are, what are you?"
"Again, I don't have to answer to you." I glare up at him. "We were just leaving." I say turning quickly. Just as I am about to walk away he grabs my arm. I turn, hissing at him. He steps back, startled.
"You can't be..."
"I am," I say Megaera's deep voice overpowering my own.
"Your a cat," he spits at me. I turn to Holly.
"Run," I whisper turning quickly and shifting into my cat. I lunge at the man and I hear Holly's frantic footsteps as she runsmaway.

I open my eyes letting my tears fall own my face. I killed them, they could have been helpful. They could have helped us. I'm sure they all had families. They all had mates. I push my hand to my chest, sobbing harder. The door opens and Travis walks in, pulling me into his embrace.
"I killed them, they had families!" I screech. He rubs soothing circles into my back as he whispers in my ear.
"Bria, it wasn't your fault. It was your cat's fault. And if they were going to hurt you it was in selfdefense."
"There were so many thing I could have done! I should have let him kill me when he killed my parents!" He pulls me roughly from his chest.
"Don't ever say that!" He says his eyes darkening. "If you had died I would have have gone crazy. But not only that, I would have my mate in my arms." He says hugging me again.
"History will repeat, they will kill me." I say through my sobs.
"They will never get close to you."
"You can't promise that."
"I can, and I will." He says his voice holding so much raw emotion. I hugged him tighter and we sat in each other's arms the rest of the night.
