The next day we woke up with sore backs. Today was the day I would try and communicate with the creature. He was part human and Mish. He had to be intelligent, no he was intelligent, he has shown it.

Morrisey yawned and looked up at me.

"Morning..."

He said groggily. I giggled and smiled at him. The creature looked at us with its intelligent golden eyes. I guess he tried to smile at me because he stretched his mouth and showed me his shark teeth which were pointy and sharp. I gave him a half smile and turned to Morrisey who was wiping the sleep from his eyes.

"I'm going to try and talk to it."

He looked at me and raised an eyebrow.

"What?"

He said almost laughing. I frowned.

"I'm going to try and communicate with it."

This time he laughed.

"Dude, it's an animal. It doesn't seem to have a language."

He said holding his stomach then sighing when he calmed down. I rolled my eyes.

"It's half Mish and Human. He has been raised around people all his life; he must know some English or something! He is smart, you have seen it! He knew exactly who to attack when his tank was open, and he knew exactly how to escape. I know he can talk. I know it."

I said looking at the creature who was peering into the water. He seemed lonely. I walked over to it and placed a hand on its scaly shoulder making it jump and almost fall in the water.

I could not hold back my laughter and let it loose, clutching my stomach. When I finished the creature was looking at me in what seemed like awe.

Hesitantly I reached over and cupped his cheek. This is the type of creature that would make children pee their pants and pop up in horror movies. It truly was a beast, but a kind one.

"You're lonely, aren't you?"

I said softly making it look down. It let out high-pitched noise and jumped into the water, probably to get us breakfast.

I sighed and sat back down next to Morrisey who looked at me with a look that said I was crazy.

"Honestly, I am not going to lie, I missed being in the ocean. A lot. I just wish it were on my own terms."

He said looking at me. I laughed and nodded.

"I feel you, sometimes I wish I could take Vincent to live here with me and not the other way around."

He made a noise of agreement and we sat in happy silence. Since I told Morrisey to look at the positive side he truly has tried, and things seemed a lot less dull and depressing.

"Do you think your pregnant?"

He asked me to put a hand on his stomach. I sighed and looked down.

"Honestly probably, but I'm still not sure. I have no symptoms or signs so I'm not going to get my hopes up."

He nodded in understanding and jumped when the creature popped out of the water with two red snappers.

I got up and started to munch on one while giving one to Morrisey who thanked me.

When we were done, I walked back to the creature who was playing in the water with his feet again.

"Hello."

I said making him shriek. I sighed and dipped my feet in the water.

"So why won't you talk to us?"

I said. He said or did nothing, so I kept going.

"You took us for a reason, and I know you're smarter than you let on. Just communicate with us! We are not going to hurt you or take you back to that place. You're free now..."

I said placing a hand on his big shoulder making him jump and shriek. I pulled back quickly and looked up at him fearfully. He seemed to realize what he did and calmed down, and almost seemed... sorry?

I sighed and left him alone turning to Morrisey.

"Want to see if we can go swimming?"

I asked him. He immediately nodded and we walked over to the pool.

When we started to strip out clothes off and got into the water the creature shrieked and pushed us back gently.

"No, no! We just want to swim. We promise we won't leave; you can come with us!"

I said making the creature calm down. He looked at us warily but did not protest when we stepped into the water this time.

He watched in awe as Morrisey shifted, looking happy- that he was not alone. When he was done looking at Morrisey he looked at me expectantly. I shifted and he too looked fascinated. I pointed to Morrisey and said

"He's a Mish. A Mish. Me, I am a merman. Merman."

The creature just shrieked in acknowledgement and ducked under the water. I giggled and followed.

I enjoyed the cool water and swam around the ocean floor looking for shells and kelp to make necklace. Speaking of necklace, I decided I was going to give the one I made for my mate so many months ago to my baby. Their first gift.

We swam around for a while, Morrisey and I teaching the creature how to play tag. I could see Morrisey forgetting at times that he was kidnapped by the beast and being friendly towards it before remembering and backing off.

I sighed and shook my head. I know this thing can talk, but I think he is still afraid. It needs to warm up to us.

Today Morrisey and I helped catch dinner and we enjoyed some snapper and kelp. I decided to sleep on the seabed tonight with them to see if that would help my back.

When we all settled down, I looked towards the creature who was watching Morrisey and I with golden glowing eyes. Eyes that held a lot of intelligence and pain behind them.

"Goodnight, I hope you speak to us soon. We want to help you, save you. We could all be friends, family even."

I said yawning at the end. The beast said nothing and just kept staring at me. I gave him a small smile before closing my eyes, dreaming of Vincent and I having our own family.
