As we walked away from the party I looked at Moe. Despite his offer to stay at their garden for the night he seemed to carefully choose his words around you, almost as though he was afraid to offend you.
We had just crossed the bridge away from cupheads house and I could already see what looked like a small farm nearby. Along the way I had talked with Moe a little more. He was originally from Ireland but moved to inkwell when the famine hit. When I asked how he met Psy and Weepy he grew quiet and said softly, 'Not my story to tell kid.'
I quietly nodded and changed the subject to something a little more humorous.
"So." I leaned in close for a dramatic effect and whisper yelled." Is Psy really psychic? I know he can move things with his mind but can he, ya know read people's mind."
Moe chuckled and whispered back, "Yeah, but not a lot."
"What do you mean?"
"Welp 'eres the thing. It takes a lot of energy for 'im to read someone's mind. Now Blind Specter, he can do that easily, unfortunately he can't lift things like Psy." Moe explained, still whispering. "Another thing is that Psy can only lift organic things like plants and people. No metal."
"Huh, interesting. Why do you think that is?"
"Hell if I know. Maybe it's cause we're plants."
At that moment we arrived at the small farm. It only appeared to be an acre or two. My own garden at home still paled in comparison to this one. Veggies of almost every kind could be seen growing calmly in the cool night air. Carrots, onions, and potatoes obviously but also tomatoes and squash.
"Quite the garden you got here. How many people do you sell to?"
Psy was the one who answered, "We have around 40 families all over Inkwell that buy produce from us."
"I'm impressed, must make a lot of money."
"I suppose, we use most of it to cover the cost of fertilizer, seeds, tools, building materials, repairs-" Psy was cut off by Moe who gave a little cough.
"As much as we all love talkin' bout finances and the like, it's late and i'm ready to hit the hay." Moe said with a little bit of an eye roll.
Weepy nodded along and gestured to me. "Plus w-we have a guest."
"Oh of course. Sleep first. Talk can wait till morning." Psy smiled sheepishly but quickly recovered and gestured vaguely to an area of tilled soil. "Feel free to plant yourself wherever you like, the soil is full of nutrients."
I stood there puzzled, "What?"
"Ya know, plant yourself. How else are ya supposed to sleep?" Moe interjected, looking confused.
It took a moment to figure out what they meant, but when I did it was hilarious. I couldn't suppress a chuckle. "Guys that's not how humans sleep. We sleep in a bed, with blankets and not outdoors."
The veggies let that information sink in and when it did, they looked mortified.
(((Moe's POV))) (surprise ;D)
Oh god no. We invited a human to spend the night, and we don't have anywhere for them to sleep! Why the hell didn't I think of this at the party. Of course they don't sleep in the dirt, that's a plant thing. I'm such an idiot!
(Y/N) didn't seem to be bothered by this and found it funny. Weepy looked like he waited to bury himself forever and Psy looked... uncomfortable.
"I am so sorry! That didn't even cross my mind that you couldn't... you know."
When (Y/N) finally calmed down she assured us that it was fine and despite not having the sleeping conditions she required, insisted that she was happy with the offer of staying the night. She settled for some blankets that we have in the shed for winter and curled up next to where we would be sleeping. She fell asleep almost as soon as she hit the ground.
Weepy was the next to hit the hay, he buried himself in the dirt around 3 feet away from (Y/N). Which left Psy and me to be the only ones awake.
"So what do ya think of 'er?" I asked.
"She's good with Weepy. Little bit of fire in her, but clearly cares for her friends."
"Did ya ever get a read on her?"
Psy hesitated for a minute. "Yes, when I chased off Cagney. It was almost the same thing as I deduced later. However I also saw a suppressed sadness."
"Sadness? Why?"
"I do not know. I wouldn't ask though. She's entitled to her secrets just as we are." I took his cryptic answer with a grain of salt.
"Says the one who was so eager to discuss our financial well being."
Psy let out a hearty chuckle and merely shook his head before he took his spot beside Weepy and fell asleep.
Which only left me. I sighed and looked over to where they were all sleeping soundly. I made my way over and stuck behind Psy for a moment, glancing at a pile of beets we set aside for sale.
With a huff I buried myself and closed my eyes. Hoping sleep would come soon.

Ok a little bit of angst in this chapter. What ever happened to hurt our favorite potato so badly? What's the deal with all the secrets? Why does this story even exist?!
I'm sure you all noticed that I have been using a few of my own headcanons for the characters. (Ex. Psy's powers and the origins of each of the brothers.)
If you ever have any questions or comments please write them down below and I will do my best to get to each of them. As always, have a nice day! :)
