Sage's POV
Yesterday at school Alice informed me that we had a big dance coming up in a few weeks. Not wanting to leave things to the last minute, I decided that I'd wake up early this morning and go shopping for a dress.
The only problem is that Mapleville is a small town. If I were to buy a dress from one of the local shops I'd be sure to turn up on the night twinning with another girl unintentionally.
So here I am on a Saturday morning in the car driving to the closest shopping district which happens to be over four hours away.
Sarah, Alice and May offered to accompany me but having already chosen their dresses, I didn't want to bore them. 30 minutes into the journey and I'm already regretting that decision.
Thankfully, Dad let me borrow his car again or else it would have been a long trek on foot. I'm just praying I don't get lost.

When I finally pull up to the shops it's just past 11 am. Thank gosh, it isn't too busy yet. I'm planning to quickly find a dress and then quickly leave.
I make my way over to a small looking boutique on the corner. In its windows are formal looking dresses. One is a full-length baby blue colour and the other is a shorter pink dress. In the store is hundreds of more variations of the two dresses at the front but in different colours and neck styles.
After I come to the conclusion that nothing takes my fancy I move onto the next store. Once again, all very nice dresses but nothing that strikes me as 'the one.'
Moments like these make me miss my mother even more. I envy the girls who get to go on shopping trips with their mothers. I wish she were here right now. She had an eye for fashion and would have made this decision a lot easier and more enjoyable.
As I enter the third shop, I somehow know this will be the one. I walk slowly through the shop. There are dresses of every colour, style and pattern.
I scan the room and my eyes land on a beautiful red dress. It is full length and has a side slit. The top of the dress is embroiled with red flowers that add detail to the dress. It has a halter neck. I can't help but smile like an idiot as I look at it.
"Beautiful isn't it?" I quickly turn around and see the shop assistant smiling at me. "Very!" I exclaim.
"Do you want to try it on?" She asks.
"Oh yes please," I say getting excited.
She shows me to a fitting room. I quickly put the dress on, excited to see how it will look.
I gasp when I look in the mirror. It's definitely the one. I take my hair out of my ponytail. The red goes so well with my blue eyes and chestnut coloured hair. My mother would have loved it.
I end up buying it. Luckily it fitted my dads budget and left me quite enough money to go buy a smoothie from one of the cafes.
I sit down at one of the tables, exhausted from shopping. I take a sip of my mango smoothie and look around. The street is definitely a lot busier now. My phone buzzes and I look down to see a message from my dad.
Hey sweetie, I won't be home when you get back. There are some leftovers in the fridge. Don't wait up
I sigh and type back a quick ok:)
It then suddenly hits me that I don't have any shoes to wear. I look at the time on my phone,
1:37 pm. I get up and go in search of a shoe shop. It isn't a hard job considering there are multiple.
