It had been two weeks and I had just placed second in my last competition. I started out in Berlin and made it to third place. I had just finished my next competition in the United States. I made second place here, but it was only gonna get harder from here, I knew it.
I was getting interviewed, much like many of the other skaters that would be moving forward in the competition. I smiled and picked Roman up. He was really good around people and loved the attention.
The person interviewing me was female and laughed at Rowan's yipping. "You recently broke up with Yuri Kastuki, is this cutie your rebound?" she asked. I laughed and shook my head. I hadn't thought about Yuri much in the past week.
"No, rebounds never last, this one will," I grinned. She smiled and moved onto the next topic. "So how do you feel moving on?"she questioned. I thought for a moment before responding. "I feel pretty confident. I feel like if I continue like this I can at least make third in the finals," I said with a large smile.
I did feel confident. As long as I kept practicing like I was and kept going, I'd do well. She smiled and nodded, glancing back at the camera man. "So let's talk about your outfit? Both of them are much more... revealing than the ones in the past. You're usually very modest, what changed? Was it a certain someone?" I laughed, of course they'd turn this back to my outfit and relationships.
"Well, I guess you could say that. The lady I go to for these wanted to to put myself out there a bit more, and Yuri was with me. He found it and showed it to her without my permission," I said, letting out a small laugh.
Roman began squirming in my arms and I set him down, allowing him to roam a bit as I held onto the leash. She smiled, "So has your relationship remained platonic. I'm sure everyone has seen the video of your break up by now," She said. I fought the urge to roll my eyes.
These questions were getting annoying. "Yes. Yuri and I grew up together, there's no way we could stay mad at each other for long," I explained for her. She smiled and nodded. "So do you still have your outfit on? I'm sure people would love a closer look," She explained. I gave nervous laugh and nodded.
I didn't really want too give a closer look, but it was obvious I still had it on, you could see the skirt hanging out from my jacket. If I said no it would look weird. I sighed and hesitantly unzipped my jacket. My free skate outfit consisted of halter-top straps, leaving my arms revealed. The sides had a netted pattern that left my sides somewhat revealed. She smiled at the camera zoomed out so it could see my outfit.
She looked at me and squinted. "Are those scars?" She asked unsure. I laughed nervously, "Yeah..." I trailed off shyly. Her eyes widened. "Is that the same thing on your sides?" She asked slowly. I shook my head. "No. That's a bit of a different story... Health issues as a child," I said shortly. She nodded and I put my jacket back back on.
I smiled at her, "If you'll excuse me, I'll be going. I'm off to Moscow in the morning," I gave an innocent smile and walked out, pulling Roman with me. I walked to my hotel, going up to my room and closing the door. Roman yipped and began running around the room while I got my things together.
Roman played with the old sock I had given him. I didn't have much time to get any toys, so I gave him the old sock that he seemed to be having a blast with. I smiled and got all my stuff by the door. I tackled my bed and closed my eyes, drifting off.
.......................
I made it to Moscow and saw a familiar blonde head disappearing into the crowd. Yurio?
I wouldn't be surprised to see him. He would be competing with Yuri for the rest of the season. I pulled out my phone and pulled up Yuri's contact, clicking the call button. After a few rings, I didn't think he would answer. I was about to hang up when his voice came over the phone while his heavy breathing.
"Hello?" He asked, gasping for air. I smiled, "Hey. I just got to Moscow," I told him. He said he'd be here by the time I was arrived and that he'd meet me here.
I let Roman out of the small kennel I was forced to put him in. I then attached him to the leash and stood up, listening to Yuri. "Alright, I'm on my way. Victor kept me practicing late," He explained, worry etching into his voice. I laughed a bit, "I know how that feels like," I smirked.
"I'm sorry!" Yuri said loudly. I laughed and shook my head. "I'll see you in a bit," I said before hanging up. I headed outside with my bags. Roman followed me and I shivered a bit. It was pretty chilly, but Roman didn't seem to mind. Makes sense since he's part husky. I look around and smile a bit at the nice scenery. I've actually spent a lot of time in Russia. I stayed here once in between seasons for a bit of a change, and my coach at the time lived here. I got pretty used to the cold from here, even though I was in a different part.
I thought about how my next competition would go. Maybe I needed to up a few jumps. What if I changed the double axel to a triple? I chuckled to myself. That would be amusing. I've done it once, but I've never been able to pull it off since. I'd tried it in practice a few times and never could land it.
A horn honked, grabbing my attention. Yuri was smiling at me from the back of a taxi. I smiled and waved, putting my stuff in the back and climbing in. Yuri smiled at me. "Hey! How are you?" He tilted his head. I pulled Roman into the car and shut the door. "I'm alright." Yuri's attention was drawn to Roman who was staring at him.
Roman bark, causing him to laugh. "So this is the famous Roman?" He asked. I nodded. I had taken several pictures of Roman while I was traveling. He was practically the star of my social media at this point. I had gotten shy of showing my face recently since all it did was bring hate.
Yuri and I caught up, I got to give him a nice 'in your face' for doubting himself. Yuri laughed it off and by the time we finished, we had stopped in front of the hotel. I smiled and climbed out. Yuri had talking me into letting him carry Roman. I grabbed my bags and followed Yuri, who grabbed the last of my things after paying the driver.
I walked inside and checked in, going to my room. Yuri and Victor were apparently on the same floor so we went by my room and dropped my thing off. Yuri and Roman were becoming best friends apparently. They were both having a blast while I sat on the bed, watching them. Yuri smiled and began playing tug-a-war with Roman's sock.
I laughed while watching them and after Yuri letting Roman win about seven times he stood up and sat by me. "Wanna go sight seeing tomorrow?" I gave him an unsure look. "I dunno... I was planning on practicing..." I trailed off. Yuri shook his head, "It's basically my day off before the contest, please?" Yuri begged, giving me puppy dog eyes. I sighed. "Fine. I'll go," I said sadly. Yuri smiled. He then grabbed my remote from the bedside table and turned on the TV. I looked up to see it was set on some talk show that basically talked about the latest gossip between movie stars, sports, players, and sometimes movie directors.
"And here we are today, discussing the living legend of Victor Nikiforov, back in Russia for the figure skating competition, but it's not what you think. He's coaching Yuri Katsuki, a Japanese figure skater," The voice said as two pictures flashed across the screen. One of Victor and one of Yuri. I leaned back onto the bed and Yuri sat beside me as we both watched. He was nervous and I could see why.
I let out a small laugh, "Yuri, you're getting more and more famous," I cheered. Yuri gave a halfhearted smile and looked back at the TV. I sighed and put my head on his shoulder like I used to when we were young. "I'm famous for all the wrong reasons it feels like. First because I failed in a competition. Then, it was because I 'stole' Victor from Russia and I'm 'keeping him for myself,'" Yuri said, obviously frustrate. I gave him a small smile, "Well, it doesn't really matter to be honest. So what there's a bunch of stuff going around. You know the truth, and that's all that really matters, right?" I smiled into his shoulder.
Yuri gave a quiet 'thank you' before wrapping his arms around me, into a hug. I hugged him back and we stayed like that for a moment. After a bit, I tried to pull away, only for Yuri to grip me tighter. "Please. I missed you," Yuri said quietly, his breath fanning over my ear. I blushed and stayed in his arms as long as he wanted.
