Cost of the Crown (Ling x reader)

Y/ N POV

I was walking around with my best friend F/N. We got lost in the forest, again. I sighed in frustration.

"Great, just great. What now?", I groaned.

"Calm down. I'm sure we'll find the way" F/N assured.
"Say, you folks seem lost. Need some help?" We both jumped to see a man there. He had black hair in a ponytail, and looked like he was foreigner of some sort.

I sneered. "Listen mister..."

"Ling. Ling Yao miss", he said with a smile. "Well Ling Yao, we'll be just fine thank you very much" I looked away. F/N then whispered something in his ear and Ling ended up telling us where to go.

I groaned dragging F/N away.

The weirdo started following us. "Go away!" I snapped. "Aww but why?", he asked. I glared at him.
"Cause I don't like you" I stated.

He faked a hurt look. "How mean! Such a tsundere!" he said dramatically. Then he smirked.

"Very interesting though. I think I'll stick around a bit longer", he said.
I have up and we walked back. After that we kinda hung out a lot. We soon grew much closer. And eventually, we got married.

I became queen, and F/N became my best knight. It was a bit stressful, being queen that is. Especially on that day.
I was looking through the hundreds of documents we had containing treaties, city complaints, and other royal duties. I was so tired.

"Damn, this is ridiculous. Why can't I just relax for once?!" I tossed the papers aside and sighed sitting on my bed. That's when Ling came in.

I beamed seeing my beloved. I hugged him and smiled. "How are you dear?" I asked. He gave me a pained look. "Y/ N, sit down. We have somewhere important to discuss", he said.

I had never seen him so serious before. He sits me down on the bed and takes my hand.

"What is it Ling?", I ask. "Y/N, it's about F/N", he states.

"What about him?", I urge.

"Y/ N, he's gone. He and his troops were caught in a big ambush. And...he didn't make it. I'm so sorry", he said.

My eyes immediately filled with tears. "No...he can't be..." I screamed and then started sobbing. My best friend was gone. Ling held me close and rubbed my back. "I'm so sorry", he repeated softly over and over.

The next day we had a funeral for him. And that night I found myself wandering around the castle. I'm not sure why but I was singing a specific song that I had heard for years.

I sang it to myself, singing every note just right. As I finish I look up to the sky, all the twinkling stars.

"If you have compassion, let me send no more to die"

I felt a pair of arms wrap around my waist. Ling kissed my cheek and I smiled softly. "I love you Y/N"

"I love you too Ling"
